Miami Dolphins All-Time Top 100 Players: 85. Mark Dennis

Mark Dennis was a 6' 6" offensive lineman out of the University of Illinois. He was drafted in the eighth round of the 1987 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins with the 212th overall pick.

In Dennis' rookie season, the strike-shortened, replacement-fiasco 1987 season, he appeared in five games for Miami, starting two from the left guard position when injuries felled starter Roy Foster.

Star-divide

In 1988 Dennis appeared in 13 games, starting seven from the left tackle slot. He helped protect Dan Marino suffer an NFL low six sacks. He also helped pave the way for Miami's running back-by-committee approach, featuring Lorenzo Hampton, Troy Stradford, Ron Davenport and Woody Bennett. The four combined for 1137 yards and 11 touchdowns on 298 carries.

In 1989, Dennis suffered from a knee injury, restricting him to eight games and only one start.

1990 would see Dennis join the starting unit for all 16 games at right tackle. Dan Marino again led the NFL in fewest sacks, with 11, while Sammy Smith rushed for 831 yards and eight touchdowns. In 1991, he stayed in the starting lineup for 16 more games.

1992 and 1993 would see Dennis serve the Dolphins in diminishing capacities. He joined the Cincinnati Bengals for the 1994 season, and would also later play two seasons with the Carolina Panthers before retiring.

In seven seasons with the Dolphins, Dennis would start 50 of the 90 games in which he appeared.

Holy cow

We’ve had the same jersey style since 1990? Time to update!?

maybe, but the lions have the same style as well. I think a lot of teams still do. We have a nice/classic look, but some updating might be interesting
Don't get me wrong...

I like our current uni’s, but a little updating wouldn’t hurt!

Then again, we should wear our orange jerseys more often IMO.

Lions

updated their logo in the recent few years.

That looks like John Jerry

The Lions uniforms are new too

Sir, I love the piece on Mark Dennis.....but slight correction.

That picture is of John Jerry in the Week 16 game against the Lions at home in 2010. The pass rusher is ILB DeAndre Levy. Those are the new Lions uniforms 2009 to present. Also the Dolphins didn’t play the Lions in 1990 , nor did the Dolphins have the same uniforms or logo.

Otherwise though it is a good post. I am surprised that Mark Dennis made your list.

Good catch.

I was actually coming in to the post to try and figure out where the photo went.

It looked fishy

The camera clarity looked new technology. Hell in 1990 we had polaroids! haha

Credibility 1, Kevin 0.

But I looked and couldn’t find a pic anywhere (after your kind correction, sir).

Then in those cases I think you should have to draw us a picture of the player and post it.
I knew that you probably just put the wrong pic up by accident.

I have made way more careless mistakes on The Phinsider. Take my word for it. Lol.
