Franchise Tag Predictions

The NFL franchise tag period opened today, with teams able to place the one-year tag on players between now and March 5. A team may place a franchise tag on one player per year, giving them a fully guaranteed one-year deal worth the average of the top five players' salaries from their position.

Joel Thorman, from SB Nation, has put together a list of players who may or may not have the franchise tag placed upon them.

Star-divide

For the Miami Dolphins, Thorman writes:

"Paul Soliai. They franchised him last year, but I doubt that happens again. His agent has said there aren't any indications that the franchise tag or a deal is coming from the Dolphins' front office. I've seen crazier things but expect Soliai to hit the open market."

Check out the full article over at SBNation.com for Thorman's thoughts on all the teams' franchise tag plans.

New England hasn't used theirs yet, and I'm wondering if Welker gets tagged.

Some people are suggesting they let him sniff free agency to see that he’s not worth big bucks. Thing is his 2011 numbers are 50% higher than all of our other receivers combined.

On the Dolphins front, I doubt Soliai gets the tag again. Especially if they are going 4-3. Is there anyone else that might get the tag?

I could see then franchising

Colombo.

I just looked at Marc Colombo's wikipedia page.

He is also the rhythm guitarist in the heavy metal band “Free Reign”.

That has awesome written all over it.

I think the band mispelled "Rain"
At least they didn't spell it "Rane"
If signed there might be a word used, but it wont be sane!
Yeah I saw a clip of them playing here in Dallas once. Awesome is the last word I would use for their band.
Just the fact that he plays in one, was what I was talking about.

I guess if they suck, though. Not so awesome.

Here's something:

I found on youtube.

They all look like linemen.
Free Reign played a small concert

…and in between numbers a skinny Goth-lookin girl rushed the stage to hug the lead guitar dude. Colombo tried to stop her but she knocked him back into the drum kit.

^^ kidding of course

But when I saw the Youtube clip that scenario immediately came to mind.

It's no longer the top 5 players salaries

But what the cap price was 5 season ago.

Under Article 9, Section 2(a)(i) of the CBA, the franchise tender for each position arises from a formula that takes the value of franchise tags for the last five years, adds them up, divides them by the total value of the salary cap for the last five years, and multiplies the resulting percentage by the salary cap for the current year. (Since there was no salary cap in 2010, the number to be used will be the average of the salary cap in 2009 and 2011.)
Of course its a nice easy formula.
If we could Frachanse Tag another player who was allowed to walk (UFA) ...

I’d Tag Mario W…….
LOL……

3-4

Since we’re sticking with a 3-4 hybrid, where does Solia and Langford now fit? Are they pieces we retain, or do we still let them walk?
