So much for the straight-to-retirement talk for Peyton Manning, eh?
Five months after undergoing spinal fusion surgery, Manning on Thursday was medically cleared by doctors to resume his quarterbacking career. Manning's clearance will certainly make the Indianapolis Colts' offseason plans a little more interesting, as it is unknown whether or not the club will pick up the $28 million option bonus in Manning's contract. If the Colts decline to pay the bonus, which is due by March 8, Manning will become an unrestricted free agent.
The issue for Manning is now whether or not he can fully regenerate the nerves in his triceps and regain the arm strength he possessed prior to his neck surgery.
The Colts are expected to take Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the No.1 overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft.

This is good news for him. I hope it all works out for him. Good news for his fans and maybe even Colts fans alike.
In other news, I hope Miami addresses the long-term quarterback situation this off season. I’m sick of one and two year stop gaps.

Get a pass rusher in the draft, OL,TE, and WR. (Garcon) FA, trade rest of draft to another team for 13 draft to obtain more fire power and get M Barkley to train behind PM.

We're not going to get Barkley by trading late round picks in 2012 for picks in 2013.
We’d need multiple first round picks in 2013 to get Barkley. If we have multiple first round picks in 2013, that means we traded either our first round or second round pick.

I kinda almost hope that the Colts decide to keep their franchise QB...
I mean… maybe it is just me, but it seems really wrong what they are doing to the guy that has made them relevant since 1998 when they drafted him. They already have a franchise QB, but what they dont have is any help for that franchise QB. If they were to take some 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks from us for two years think about what that could do to help them rebuild. And we would have Andrew Luck. It is a win-win situation really. Then when Manning decides to hang it up for good, they could draft another QB. Or they could package the 1st round pick we give them next year and move up to take Barkley next year to learn behind Manning. And they wouldn’t even have to kick their franchise player to the curb to do it.

And that they have to put aside the sentimental reasons for keeping Manning and do what was best for the team. We need to get him in here…. a future hall of famer, with 13 completely healthy seasons followed by some neck surgeries, who no one says will ever be able to throw the ball again… Somehow I think they will be wrong. If he is throwing already, it is a pretty good guess, knowing what we know of Manning, that he will prove everyone wrong. Sign him to a incentive laden 2 year deal, and get him in here the day they cut him. If he doesn’t play we don’t lose much and either way we need to move up and take RG3 to learn behind him. If Manning can come back and prove that he is 100% he will have no problem getting a new deal with some team that needs a QB. Worst case scenario, you get Manning in the QB room with RG3 helping him learn how to play for while he rehabs. If he never plays again, maybe you convince him to stay on as QB coach to help the young guy.
