A month ago, I posted my first big board of the year. Now, it's time to update it. This will be the last big board until the NFL Scouting Combine, which starts on February 22. Like I said in the last Big Board post., I full recognize that I am not very good at this - but it's kind of fun to do. Let me know what you think.

I honestly think David DeCastro might the best at his position than any other player in this years draft other than Luck. It’s just that he’s a guard which lowers his value. Still though…he will possibly be the best guard in the NFL very soon.

I agree with most of your rankings. The only one I am iffy about in the top 5 is Blackmon. I am back and forth on this guy. Is he athletic? Yes. Does he appear to have good character? Yes. Did he play against crappy defenses? Yes. Plus the comparisons to Crabtree are inevitable. In terms of the Dolphins draft, if he falls to 8 or 9, is he a kind of guy that we would take for a West Coast scheme? Ehhhhh. Like I said, I am flippin’ floppin’ on this dude. Sometimes I think him paired with Marshall would be awesome, and then again, I think we have other more pressing needs for that high of a pick. Anyway, long story short, I think Blackmon is not top 5, but probably top 10.

Awesome job
It can be incredibly difficult to compare players across positions, especially after the first few spots. Spot on ranking Janoris Jenkins ahead of Dre Kirkpatrick. I think another year at Florida would have landed Jenkins in the top 10, possibly ahead of Claiborne.
My only real disagreement is having Courtney Upshaw as the 4th ranked DE. I have him 2nd among DE’s right now.

Good List. Not much to argue about. But I will anyway. LOL
I don’t think Richardson should be that high. I would rank him in the late teens to early 20’s. Unless the RB is really special (Adrian Peterson type special), I wouldn’t rate the position that high. I don’t think Richardson is a “special” RB, so I would move him down.
Is he a 1st rounder? Absolutely. But he isn’t a Top 5 prospect IMO.

IF we get Peyton
then I would draft a pass rusher in the 1rst round. And either an o-lineman or safety in the 2nd round. And also look in FA pool for a FS or lineman as well. And draft Kirk Cousins in the 3rd round.

Kirk Cousins looks pretty average to me, honestly.
I see his potential upside leveling out at a good backup at best. I think that Tannehill in the second or Osweiler in the third would be better bets at QB since it’s the fact that they are raw talents lacking experience that brings them down that far in the draft, but their upside is enormous and they could have franchise potential. Osweiler has the strongest arm in the draft but he wasn’t used correctly at ASU. If we got Peyton (and I think we will) we should draft Reiff in the first to protect him and then one of these two QBs to learn behind him until he retires. THAT is a potential Favre/Rodgers situation.

I think we trade back and get a DB or OLB/DE in the 1st, either Tannehill or Osweiller later and a RT in rds 2-3.
The reason I say CB is because S. Smith doesn’t fit the bill for what Coyle had at Cincy. He will look for a guy between 5-10 and 6ft with speed under 4.4 in the 40yd dash to start across from Davis.

That 7/100ths is a huge difference for a CB.
Don’t get me wrong. Sean is an asset in press coverage, especially near the goal line. I just don’t think he has the acceleration and hip fluidity for what Coyle likes to do.

Im sorry but i dont think we darft a pass rusher in the first.
We are looking for a compliment to Wake, not his replacement. That is not a first round prospect.
I think we address both the QB position and Pass rush DE in free agency, and address oline in our draft. If not Cornerback, or Safety.
People may hate the pick, but we rounded out our RB/FB core with our latest pickup, pretty much solidifying our TE group in the process, whether we get Flynn or Peyton, we still need to protect them and protect our lead.

Pass rushers are not 1rst round prospects?? Look at the board- there are 2 of them in the top 10 picks. Coples and Ingram.

Wrong! Second round talent is stable, second round talent is good.
Second round talent does not give you a pass rush most people are afraid of. The two most important aspects of today’s game is QB and pass rush. Let me tell you we are more likely to find good if not great linemen in FA or later in the draft than we are to find pass rushers. You have to take A) the best player available in the spot you are in B) fills the biggest need for your team. With the draft depth and FA depth at O-line this year it is irresponsible to use this top 10 pick on a lineman. Wake is great but he can not be superman by himself out there and if think about it the position we are trying to fill was covered by JASON TAYLOR.

Free agency is higher priced when it comes to guards and corners
Than it is for pass rushers, especially when you already have Wake, Starks, and Odrick on the DL in the 4-3.
People forget that in switching to the 4-3 players like Starks and Odrick will play a more prominent role in pass rush.
Also, you have to realize, that while sacks are great, were looking for just enough to create turnovers, and mistakes. We will get that especially if we sign Osi, in which Miamis FO seems to hold a mutual interest in signing according to reports.
As for why I think we go a different route? We need a pulling LG, especially if we want to protect whatever investment we make at QB. Be it Peyton or Flynn. Especially if we happen to land Peyton. Whos next injury could very well put him out of football.
Gallery, and all the better Guards have been selected in the first round. Mankins was a first rounder, etc. West Coast offense isnt a read and react, were gonna have to buy our guy some time and assistance in the running game.
Also note, that with our new DC, they way well probably attack the opponents offense is with turnovers, so why get a first round pass rusher when you can get a first round CB or a first round Guard and a second round Safety?

What i am saying, is the market for premiere LG in free agency consists of 2
Tackles are a bit more prominent, but with Jerry and Murtha coming off of solid seasons at LT, we have a battle that can take place there. Either way, the lack of Guards in free agency drive up the price for their services.
As opposed to 4-3 DEs-3-4 OLBs there are at least 5 i can name, thus giving us a bargaining chip in negotiations and alleviating the need to overpay to an extent. Sure the DE that we get may be on his last leg, but he only needs to stand on that leg for a year or two, until we can address that need in the draft.
Osi is coming off an injury, other teams may look at that, and it could scare them away, and typically Super Bowl winners wind up having to lose someone when negotiating. Freeney is another option, due to the constrqints of his last contract, we could get him a bit cheaper than Indy could, and he would be a great transitioning piece that comes for less money, due to age, he wants another chance at a ring.
Either way, we will lool to fill either position in a year or two, the oline being the one phase that needs more continuity than pass rush.
Get a Guard you can keep for 5+ years, or a LB/DE you can move over in 2. Either way, we saw how getting vets to fill both positions worked out. Smart move would be to draft Decastro.

I have Justin Blackmon at 2, RG3 a little further down (somewhere around 10)
I think Blackmon is underrated actually, which is pretty bold considering the hype he gets. The guy has dominated every single matchup he’s faced, and even with a leg infection he logged 3 touchdowns against Stanford. His biggest setback is his “lack of speed” but there are plenty of NFL receivers without elite speed. Whoever gets Blackmon is going to see AJ Green-like results.
