Greetings Phinsider, P_Roach17 here from Bleeding Green Nation attempting to organize a SB Nation-wide mock draft. After a disappointing season for my Birds, and being less than thrilled with having to watch the Giants win the SB, i'm left with a football void at my core. So, as a result, I'm turning to the rest of SB Nation to satisfy not only my football needs, but the needs of others who are on the outside looking in during this 2011 postseason. You will of course be representing the Miami Dolphins, who currently hold the 8th overall pick in the 2012 draft, as I'm sure you all know. Your cooperation in this poll is greatly appreciated. Note: I would like for this poll to reflect the fans choice, not necessarily who you think your team will draft. Now for a few quick rules.

Rules:
1) There will be no trading picks. Trading picks would be both complicated, and time consuming, so everyone will just stay put at their set draft position.
2) Submit your votes for the player of your choice as soon as possible. After 2 days the results of the poll will be final, The Phinsider will submit its pick at 1am on 2/14/12, and The Cat Scratch Reader will be on the clock.
3) If you feel as though I have left a player out that deserves consideration as your teams draft selection, then let me know in the comments section, and I will gladly add them.
4) Any draft talk (or argument) that is to be made pertaining to your Phins' pick, feel free to make in the comments section.
5) ******** Be sure to rec this post so that it will remain under the recommended fan post section for everyone to see, and so that they are able to cast their vote *********
Previous picks:
1) Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck
2) St. Louis Rams - Matt Kalil
3) Minnesota Vikings - Morris Claiborne
4) Cleveland Browns - Robert Griffin III
5) Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Trent Richardson
6) Washington Redskins - Justin Blackmon
7) Jacksonville Jaguars - Quinton Coples
Hopefully this can be a fun experience for all of SB Nation, as well as provide insight into the upcoming NFL draft. Be sure to vote and keep the ball rolling so that the rest of SB Nation can participate. Thanks for your time, and good luck in the upcoming season. The Phinsider is now on the clock!

We still don't know what pick the Phins will have
Could be the 8th or the 9th. Just throwing that out there.
Phinatics - February 12, 2012
Won't matter if we don't trade, the panthers won't interfere with out prospects and vice versa
finzrule - February 13, 2012
Not exactly true
It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Miami to be interested in a CB. The Panthers also need help on the DL and both Coples or Ingram could be options for them. Riley Reiff could also be a slight possibility for Carolina. If Blackmon somehow falls to #8, both teams would have interest in him as well.
Finhead83 - February 13, 2012
Who is picking Reilly Reiff?
Seriously people? Haven’t we spent enough first round picks on O-linemen? How has that worked out for us? 6-10 last year?
Jason Scott_90 - February 12, 2012
Its best to just walk away shaking your head knowing that our opinions here have little bearing on what actually happens.
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012
If we're going BPA at No.8, Riley Reiff will be in the discussion
I actually believe he’s the best tackle in this draft, and our new QB (possibly Manning or Flynn) will probably appreciate the extra insurance on the right side. Not saying we SHOULD take Reiff with our selection, but I believe he should at least be considered if Ingram and Coples are both off the board.
kmb8488 - February 12, 2012
I would have no problem with that. BPA is never a terrible idea. If you wind up with depth that always gives you other
pieces that you can trade to fill holes. No matter the position there is someone out there that is thin at that position.
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012
Hard to choose before free agency happens, but i went with ingram
smokinjoe699 - February 12, 2012
Some truth in that but they are a way to spend the time until FA starts.
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012
well... technically this is all fantasy anyway since they don't poll the fans..
So make up your own Free Agency period…. Mine includes signing Carl Nicks and putting him at LG, moving Incognito to RG, and moving John Jerry to RT. It also has us starting Chris Clemmons at FS, and beginning to let Reshad Jones learn the SS role, coming in for YB, but only on passing downs for right now. I also have us signing Antonio Garay at NT and letting Soliai walk.
Jason Scott_90 - February 12, 2012
We dont need a NT
We are moving to a 4-3 D ; )
Aleta - February 13, 2012
No we will be a hybrid which is what we have been.
texascowpunk - February 13, 2012
Well really, I don't think anyone runs a TRUE 3-4
Anyone who runs a 3-4 defense basically runs a hybrid, since so much of the game is revolving around the pass nowadays. 3rd and long almost always means extra DBs or pass-rushers.
Dolphinole - February 14, 2012
Sure and we might lean more now towards a 4-3 but seeing as the new coach has said we will continue to
run a hybrid as we have I don’t think we are going to a pure 4-3 based D.
texascowpunk - February 14, 2012
Either way,
I don’t think Soliai stays. At least, he doesn’t stay unless he accepts far less money than what he has been demanding. Just as it always goes in any free agency in any sport, someone will overpay for someone they don’t need, and Soliai will be no different. I don’t think he has the scheme versatility as someone like Vince Wilfork or even Randy Starks, so he’ll be completely expendable for us and also a great way to free up some cap space.
Dolphinole - February 14, 2012
I can agree with that.
texascowpunk - February 14, 2012
I do think our defense will be primarily 4-3 with only a few sprinkles of 3-4.
After all, Philbin only said he wants to continue to run elements of both defenses and that he’s not loyal to either scheme. Not a confirmation we’ll run 4-3 all the time, but that isn’t really a ringing endorsement for the 3-4.
Finhead83 - February 14, 2012
Yes but we know you don't know anything.
texascowpunk - February 14, 2012
You sound more like my wife with each passing day...
Finhead83 - February 14, 2012
LOL Ah just like TO its everyone else.
texascowpunk - February 14, 2012
Of course...
I can do no wrong!
Finhead83 - February 14, 2012
Yes, yes of course. Just keep pointing fingers at others. That always works out.
texascowpunk - February 14, 2012
Most of the time, it doesn't...
Most of the time when I point my fingers at others, it works it’s way in.
Giggidy!
Finhead83 - February 14, 2012
That doesn't mean the defenses don't use a true 3-4
GB and Pittsburgh both use true 3-4 defenses. 3-4 defenses have always had alignments when they don’t always have 3 DL and 4 LBs (same with the 4-3). That is why teams like to attack Pittsburgh by spreading them out. They want to take them out of the 3-4.
Finhead83 - February 14, 2012
Ingram seems like the logical choice but hey
looking at the past 5 drafts, it is a migraine headache waiting to run out the closet.
fin4three5yrs - February 12, 2012
Got to go with Ingrim
Aall the talent of Coples, but with none of the attitude
Phinsphana - February 12, 2012
Why is Jacoby Harris not on that list?
I want Jacoby Harris!!!Finhead83 - February 12, 2012
Damn it!
Jacory Harris I mean… I sometime stub faster than I can think!
Finhead83 - February 12, 2012
We are bringing him in undrafted... to see what he has ...
stash him on the practice squad and see if he develops….
Jason Scott_90 - February 12, 2012
But we must spend a first round pick on a QB, even if it has to be Jacory Harris...
Finhead83 - February 12, 2012
OMG I am a huge Canes fan and
if we wasted a pick, any pick on him my head would explode!
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012 via Android app
LOL
I would hate it if we drafted him…
Finhead83 - February 12, 2012
Best player avalable Malvin Ingram!
wild zion beaver - February 12, 2012
I wouldn't use a pick on the guy...
but he was much improved this year… given his talent level I would bring him in undrafted and see if Philbin could develop him. I would definitley draft another QB… But why are we all sold on bringing in one QB at a time and hoping he works out?
Jason Scott_90 - February 12, 2012
I honestly don't think there is much there to work with and I am a huge Canes fan.
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012
If we compared Ken Dorsey to Jacory Harris...
I would take Dorsey now at his age now and believe he has more potential in the NFL than Harris does.
Finhead83 - February 13, 2012
LOL Sadly you might be correct. Also I read that Kosar is fairly broke now. Maybe we could get him back.
texascowpunk - February 13, 2012
... so says your wife...
lol
Alpha6 - February 12, 2012
Yeah, she does say that...
Finhead83 - February 12, 2012
Comon man quit riding his wife!
wild zion beaver - February 12, 2012
Get to the live thread.
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012
where!
wild zion beaver - February 12, 2012
Hahaha
Miami represent!
P_Roach17 - February 12, 2012
It's Jacorry, lol
finzrule - February 13, 2012
I corrected it in my reply, but it is Jacory with one R.
Finhead83 - February 13, 2012
Spot 8 sucks.. I feel like we are right on the cusp of the ELITE talent, and the SECOND TIER
If this is where we are I’d like to:
1. Trade up and grab RGIII
2. Draft the best OL/OLB ONLY if we have signed Peyton Manning.
3. Trade down.
BSerious72 - February 12, 2012
no reason to trade down... for what? Get the most talented guy you can get at this spot..
Contrary to what most people seem to believe, we don’t need a bunch of OK players. We draft plenty of OK players to develop, but we don’t have the roster spots to develop them. I would rather go and get a freak of nature and see if we can develop him, than get a solid player and hope that he somehow turns into a good player. There are plenty of good players in the league, but if we have a chance to pick up a freak… a guy that teams have to plan for specifically. A guy that people lose sleep over… we gotta go get that guy. The kind of guy that could easily flame out, like Gholston, but could just as easily be the next JPP.
Jason Scott_90 - February 12, 2012
Well i did not here to many complain when Jason Taylor, got up & told "the whole" defense to put up or shut TF up!
Opps I added TF. He was (our defensive backbone) this year!
wild zion beaver - February 12, 2012
Melvin ingram
All day Ingram and wake
AnishB15 - February 12, 2012 via mobile
Yes ^^^^^^-this-^!
wild zion beaver - February 12, 2012
I am very conflicted...
Hey all, new Phinsider free agent here. I have loved the Dolphins ever since I can remember. I met Dan Marino when I was 5 years old in Parkersburg, West Virginia and it was the birth of an obsession. I am from Ohio, so it is nice to be a part of the community and talk with some fellow Dolphin fans! Maybe I will be lucky enough to meet OFF4L…
I have no idea what to do in the draft. The only thing I know is that I don’t want to mortgage our draft this year and high picks for next year for one player. So I am off the RG3 bandwagon unless there is some other way of going about it. I just think we have too many holes to fill. I agree with BSerious72 because the 8 spot stinks…but the draft is crazy and people can fall. But it sure seems like we should try to move down a few spots – I think we can get similar caliber players at a better value and acquire more picks in the process.
I could see us going offense, perhaps right tackle or Blackmon if he falls. I could see us going defense, we could conceivably pick any position on defense and it would make sense to me (maybe linebacker not so much, assuming we will be in 4-3 most of the time). AHHHHH, what do we do, man? Get a game changer, whatever the position – it is my belief that is what the Dolphins ultimately lack are game changers. We have nice role players, a stud here and there, veteran leaders, but we need some more game changers on both sides of the ball. Game changers bring out the best in everyone.
Again, glad to be a part of the community. The scouting combine can’t come soon enough.
Interesting side note: Michigan signed a recruit named Jake Butt. Guess what position he plays? Tight end.
SUTTON - February 12, 2012
Welcome to the Phinsider!
TE named Butt.
Nice
Urthling - February 12, 2012
At least it wasn't Ass
Alpha6 - February 12, 2012
Blackmon falling would be a dream
If he fell to us at 8 or 9 I would quite literally attempt a backflip from a standstill. On concrete. He’s my Eric Berry of the 2012 draft, and while it’s technically possible he slips, I just don’t see how he could get past the Rams, Vikings, Browns, the Redskins, the Jags, or the Panthers if they pick ahead of us.
Dolphinole - February 14, 2012
Ingram all the way...
If there are two things I a sure of about today’s NFL it is that a team needs a QB (which I am assuming will happen in FA and depth added later in the draft) , and a way to pressure the other teams QB. Wake is good but he can not be a one man wrecking crew. We need to fill the hole that JT left. Ingram has the talent and the work ethic. With that being said, GO PHINS
Hollywood Dolfan - February 12, 2012
This ^
Yes
Urthling - February 12, 2012
yep
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012 via Android app
Count me in
kmb8488 - February 12, 2012
I would have never guessed.
texascowpunk - February 12, 2012
I can live with Ingram
Please no OL picks again though. I want to at least draft someone who can have an impact on turnovers or big offensive play potential.
zeusmith - February 12, 2012
I would also love to get Kendall Wright
If he’s still there early second round for a REAL deep speed threat we don’t have.
zeusmith - February 12, 2012
WTH is wrong with TB fans? Trent Richardson? When Blount is one of the only decent players on that entire team
Souwantmyname - February 12, 2012
They want to take his plays away, so he lasts longer!?
wild zion beaver - February 12, 2012
They must have some crazy idea about using two running backs and no qb.
Wait, I have seen this somewhere before….
Hollywood Dolfan - February 13, 2012
LOL
Alpha6 - February 13, 2012
double vession sumone give me a local!
wild zion beaver - February 13, 2012
Decastro all the way :)
If ever i was to draft an olineman in the first, it would be this guy.
dolphinfan4lyfe - February 13, 2012 via mobile
