The Miami Dolphins released former starting linebacker Channing Crowder before the start of the 2011 season, a move that surprised a lot of people. Crowder had proven over the years just how valuable he was to the team, with the defense consistently improving with his presence. However, he was constantly a frustration for Miami fans, wanting to see Crowder start making big, impact plays. Instead, the Dolphins turned to Kevin Burnett to team with Karlos Dansby in the middle of the linebacking corps.
And, Crowder was not shy in his criticism of the team, clearly stating that, despite his "retirement" from the game, he planned to play again in 2012. He also said that, if things changed in Miami, he would return to the team.
Now, the team has completely gutted the coaching staff, firing former head coach Tony Sparano and bringing in Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. And, with that change, speculation that Crowder would return to Miami slowly started to build.
Until Crowder shot it all down today.

According to an NFL.com report, Crowder is planning his return next year, but will not entertain the idea of coming back to the Dolphins.
"I wouldn't go on a team with Jeff Ireland. I'm not very confident in him," said Crowder, who has been hosting his Miami-based radio show from Indy all week. "He doesn't know what he's doing in my opinion. He's real disrespectful, he doesn't know how to deal with people and the whole Dez Bryant [situation] kind of showed to the world what he's about, but guys in the building know what he's really about."
So, for all of the Jeff Ireland haters, you can at least confirm that Ireland prevented Crowder from joining the team. Remember, Ireland asked Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant if his mom was a prostitute, after the then draft prospect said his dad had been a pimp, and his mom worked for his dad. The story leaked, and the media and fans, both of the Dolphins and around the league, blasted Ireland for his improper question. Ireland later apologized for it.
"He's not a good person," Crowder continued. "He has no class, and I wouldn't choose to go back and play there. And I would have to say it's the only team I don't want to play for."
So, Crowder's days in a Dolphins uniform ended back in 2010. Now, he has to hope another team will take a chance on a solid linebacker, who isn't afraid of talking to the media, and hates the Dolphins. Too bad Tony Sparano went to the New York Jets, because Crowder might fit in perfectly there.

yeah... it sucks too ... I really liked him when he was here...
No one gave a more entertaining interview… but seriously.. get over yourself… maybe if you behaved Ireland wouldn’t have to fine you all the time… you know the rules… if you don’t follow them YOU ARE THE IDIOT… not Ireland… I have to do certain things to please my employer… I have to wear certain things some days… If you are a moron and you get fined for it, it is not the employer that is wrong … its you… grow up Crowder
Jason Scott_90 - February 1, 2012
Yeah Crowder...
if you don’t like wearing your 15 pieces of flair then GTFO!

Or maybe.. just maybe Ireland is a the total asshat I have been saying he is for 3 years now?
I think Crowder has a big mouth and he is lame to listen to but he has always spoken the truth (as he see’s it) and ya know.. I believe him on this one. I believe Ireland is a total classless dipshit and Ross shows he is clueless firing Sparano but keeping the dorkstick.
jdtman - February 1, 2012
Well if JT says Ireland is ok and you and Crowder say he is not then I am still going with JT.
texascowpunk - February 1, 2012
I see the situation like this....
it’s like a relationship. It went bad, really bad. We’ll call Ireland the ex, Crowder was the guy. Ireland nagged Crowder to do things that would help improve him and make it easier for everyone else in the family to be around him. Crowder just saw he was being nagged, not that he was affecting others. So he left her (or she fired him, whatever).
Now, he is the angry ex. To him, she is a vile, spiteful cunt. He hates her and can’t see how anyone could ever deal with her. To the guy that is about to marry her (draftees), the guy she’s been friends with forever (Ross) and the ex that never had a problem with her (JT), she is awesome.
All in all, it’s subjective. You get out what you put in it. He (Crowder) is just as much to blame as anyone else for his situation. Until he can learn to objectively view himself and his actions, he’ll never understand that. So others (Ireland and probably new GM/coach) will be the issue.

Why are you still here?
You hate the owner, you hate the GM, so you must hate the team that owner and GM put together, right?

ADRIELSDAD - February 2, 2012
Still sour from his release. Guess he doesn't realize it's also a business.
What a shame because he could return to Miami as a starting MLB with Dansby and Burnett on the outside. Crowder could do much better as a MLB than he did as an ILB.
Finhead83 - February 1, 2012
He could have been a great depth/decent starter addition
Speaking out like that about your former employer isn’t going to help his situation in signing with another team but like always, it only takes one to want to give you a chance.

Rumor has it I might be doing a telephone interview with one of the sports talk stations this Friday,...
If it’s 560 WQAM, you can bet your ass I’ll mention that he should be a Dolphin. I know Channing,…..If nothing else I’ll give him something to chuckle about,….
Ohiofinfan4life - February 1, 2012
talk some sense into him ... he is mad because Ireland used to give him fines for misbehaving..
Let him know it is like that in the real world too… If you misbehave there are penalties. He was a 1st round talent that got drafted in the later rounds because of his attitude. That was not Ireland either … it was 32 teams that didn’t want to deal with him… Let him know that no other team is going to put up with him either. Tell him the fans still love him, but he has to grow the hell up and act like an adult. For the record… we agree for the most part with the Dez Bryant question… It proved to be a really good question too if it meant we didn’t take him… He is in trouble now… got arrested at Club LIV while he was VISITING… imagine the trouble he could get into on South Beach if he lived down here….
Jason Scott_90 - February 1, 2012
I agree Crowder is being a baby
but in no way do I agree with Ireland asking that question. Your interview for a job should not involve questions of your mother’s past or anything else beyond YOUR character and qualifications.
PhinNomenol! - February 2, 2012 via Android app
Wrong dude
If you’ve ever had to get any kind of security clearance for an employer, or applied for any high profile/sensitive job, you are going to poked and prodded. The question wasn’t out of line, it was very private, and on top of that, all we have is Dez “Mr.Honesty”’s side of the story.
Red Dog - February 2, 2012
THIS
I had a friend who applied to work in a jail.. When she arrived at the interview, she sat in a single chair accross the room from 5 officers at a table. The officers took turns firing questions at her one after the other. It seems kinda tough, but if you think about it, it is good to know the makeup of someone in that position. If you are going to bring in a 22yr old kid and give him a bunch of money, and put him on national television and Jets fans, you have to know how he is going to react to things that might make him uncomfortable. I listen to this guy on WQAM who is famous for throwing out off the wall questions that the person interviewing is not ready for. It is how you get past the bullcrap script that every single player in the draft has been fed by their agents. You have to know how he is going to react to say a Jets fan who might bridge the subject of his mother, if they don’t yell at her to flash her breasts if she happens to be in gate D while she is watching her son play. Life is tough… stop being so sensitive.
Jason Scott_90 - February 2, 2012
There is a line of decency
and it was crossed. That simple. I know about the rapid fire interview technique. Off the wall questions, sure. But if you can’t about there of a line of decency not to cross, that speaks more of your character than it did of his. Even Ireland apologized rather than defend it.
PhinNomenol! - February 2, 2012 via Android app
The interview
should be indicative of the type of job you are applying. There is a huge difference between a job requiring security clearance (in which case you are privy to highly sensitive information) and football (where you are privy to highly sensitive reporters/fans). The interview questions are aimed at determining if you are capable of doing the job adequately and representing the company. His mother being a prostitute in no way prevents him from doing his job, nor speaks of HIS moral character.
PhinNomenol! - February 2, 2012 via Android app
So let's say Dallas is lined up at the opponent's 40 yard line, down by 3 with 35 seconds left and Dez on the field.
Now let’s say the CB (Cortland Finnegan maybe) says to Dez, “Hey Dez, how much does your mommy charge for the hour? I think I’m gonna take all night with her after we beat your ass.” Dez, incensed at the comment (Rightfully so) goes off on Finnegan (Wouldn’t be Cortland’s first time) and draws a 15 yard personal foul and gets ejected from the game. You would be okay that he drew a penalty and knocked you out of field goal range (Back into your side of the field) and now is off the field when you are looking for another 15 quick yards (Now 30)?
This is a possibility (None of us would blame Dez in this instance for going off on the opponent) and GMs look for that kind of temper in their potential draft picks (You could call it the Bryan Cox syndrome if you want) that could lead to major penalties that will hurt the team. All Ireland asked was a simple question. It’s not like he said “Dez, Yo Mamma is a HO!” but people are acting like he did. He was told (By Bryant himself so it’s not like he was pursuing a rumor) that Dez’s mom worked for a pimp. Do the math. If you were told somebody’s mother worked for a pimp would you come to the conclusion that the mom was the pimp’s accountant? Maybe he should have figured Dez’s mom worked as his dad’s tailor. Mole hill does not equal mountain. Ireland apologized for the question and both he and Dez have moved on. Maybe you should too.
TheFinReaper - February 2, 2012
No, the interview questions are aimed at whether or not this guy is worth giving a multi-million dollar contract to.
PNSter - February 2, 2012
Well
Regardless of of what high profile job you are talking about it is not the NFL. in these job interviews some guys are asked crazy things like whether they prefer “boxers or briefs”. Is that a type of question that would be asked for a regular job?
Deuce Black - February 3, 2012

Ouch! I’m not a fan of Jeff Ireland or Crowder – wish we could have none of them back. But unlike Crowder, who I have ZERO interest to bring back, I’ll at least give Jeffy one more chance, although I’m not holding my breath.

Thanks, Jeff Ireland...
for keeping this d-bag away from our team. Anyone with any brains whatsoever would take Dansby & Burnett over Crowder’s sorry ass ANYDAY.
Hell, my Boston Terrier could make more plays than Crowder did.
ryan.benker - February 1, 2012
Nobody cares, Channing
Patssuck456 - February 2, 2012
I said this in the fan shot,
but it deserves to be said again…
where are the "lets bring him back crowd" I heard the last couple days.
F Crowder. The dude was a wash. Burnett is a million times better at everything he does. Ireland is a good GM that was able to upgrade a spot that was supposed to just be a thumper. They tried to pair this clown with Dansby to play the Jack role, nothing more, and he couldnt even do that.
He seems like a cool guy to have a beer with, but as a football player, calling him average is too much credit. Friggan Tim Dobbins has had more impact than Crowder. Tim F’ing Dobbins.
Ireland all day baby. Guy has a good eye for talent and the balls to weed out losers like Dez Man Child Bryant.
