Coming into the 2011 season, everyone knew this was quarterback Chad Henne's last chance to prove he was the guy to lead the Miami Dolphins. During the lockout, Henne did all the right things. He organized player only workouts. He met with offensive coordinator during the one day lifting of the lockout in April. He tried to install as much of the offense as he could without any coaches around.
And, he tried to be the leader the team needed.
He did enough for the team to vote him one of their captains heading into the season. And he did enough at the start of the season that some fans were starting to wonder if Henne had, indeed, matured into a quality starting quarterback.

That is, until the season ending shoulder bug bit Henne during the team's Week 4 contest against the San Diego Chargers. Henne separated his non-throwing shoulder, and, despite his desire to get back on the field with the injury, the team and outside doctors all said the same thing: season ending surgery was needed.
So, now, with the season over, and his contract expiring in March with the end of the current league year, Henne made what was most liekly his last public appearance as a member of the Miami Dolphins. But, that's not for a lack of wanting to be here.
"I'm going to be here until they push me out of here," Henne told reporters on Monday, according to the Palm Beach Post.
When the topic of conversations turned to his talking with the Dolphins' front office about a new contract, Henne replied, "I hope so. If not, then I'll move on, but I love this team, I love being down here."
"I get another check-up [on the shoulder] in about a month but everything's going well," Henne added. "I've been strengthening it; it's coming along faster than normal."
Henne talked about the job the team, and his replacement Matt Moore, did following the injury. The team, according to Henne, did a "great" job. Moore, according to Henne, did a "really good job [with] the offense."
But, Henne also said he thought he was off to a solid start this season, before being injured.
"You can look at the turnovers, but that was at the end of the game when you had to force the ball," Henne stated. He had thrown 4 touchdowns, but also 4 interceptions, in the 3+ games before the injury. "I feel like I can make the big plays at the end. I can do that and I will do that. But it's just more consistency."
The Dolphins are expected to draft a quarterback during April's draft, but could resign Henne as a backup, or to challenge Moore and the rookie in training camp. However, it's more likely Henne will be looking for a job elsewhere next season. And, with the state of the quarterback situation in the NFL, he really won't have a problem finding a spot on some roster.

Not gonna get duped into believing in Henne.... again
this a fool me once, fool me twice blah blah blah moment.
Davone_Is_BessT - January 3, 2012
This.
Moore,Weeden,RG3,Flynn,Manning are the only names I want to hear
Goon305Boy10 - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Weeden?
Weeden is what 29 years old? Picking him would be a waste of a pick imo. I would want us to keep moore, henne and draft either luck or RGIII. We won’t get luck unless a miracle happens so I would want us to draft RGIII, let him sit a year behind henne or moore and learn the NFL. Unless hes a straight beast and then we start him right away.
kingmz - January 3, 2012
28 in October
Drafting a guy like Weeden would have been good last year, when we knew Henne was going to get another chance. Not this year.
Agent J 78 - January 3, 2012
Man March can not get here soon enough
Foy - January 3, 2012
i for one want Henne to stay
I see a big upside to the guy and it wont cost very much to keep him around. This may be crazzy talk, but it would be worth looking into a trade of some of our better players and our 2nd round pick for some team like the Rams or Colts 1st rounder next year. If we get lucky and trade witha team that will likely be in the bottom again next year, maybe we could get Barkley next year and avoid stretching for a 2nd tier qb in this year’s draft.
Phinphinatic - January 3, 2012
Yea I really wanted to see him come back next year
And that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to draft a QB in April. If we could do both it would be ideal
insainsiren - January 3, 2012
i like our options for next year.
there are many different direction we can go in that include Henne or exclude him. He is not going to be a franchise player for us next year IMO.
Phinphinatic - January 3, 2012
I'm also for bringing him back
We could sign him to a contract similar to what Moore got. Henne and Moore could battle to be the starter with the loser being the backup. We need a solid backup either Henne or Moore should fit in perfectly. I still think we need to draft a QB also.
NawlinsPhinFan - January 3, 2012
henne
when will you guys wake up and see henne cant get the team in the end zone once they get inside the red zone…he cant make quick decisions in a 20 yard field…and it costs him time after time with late passes…let him go..rather see moore than henne at this point
paul wall 1962 - January 3, 2012
your right....
matt moore is the model of efficiency inside the 20… 16 fumbles on the year by the way.
Phinphinatic - January 4, 2012
You've made your point
They both suck
Little Nicky 21 - January 4, 2012 via Android app
NEXT
They need to trade up & get Luck or RG3
This has to happen!!
SSFDballer - January 3, 2012 via mobile
For some reason I really think Ross wants to do this and there is a good shot it will happen
Foy - January 3, 2012
Me too
Agent J 78 - January 3, 2012
whats the most you would offer
to trade up for Luck?
sdelinois - January 3, 2012
Good question lol
not sure but if we go out as an act of desperation then we will give up way to much…most I would lay down is two 1st and a 2nd
Foy - January 3, 2012
I don't think that gets you RG3
sdelinois - January 3, 2012
Mybe maybe not but I sure as hell would not give up 3 first rounders for either
Foy - January 3, 2012
I concur
NawlinsPhinFan - January 3, 2012
I'd ask Indy what they want & then say Deal!!
4 first round picks, who cares we need a QB & can just build through free agency for our first round picks lost in the short term
SSFDballer - January 4, 2012 via mobile
I would give up this years 1st, 2nd, next years 1st, 2nd and then Cameron Wake. I love Wake and hes a beast but he doesn’t have the greatest upside. He is getting old and will have a few years left in him. Take our chances and find a pass rusher through the draft or F/A.
kingmz - January 3, 2012
lol you want to get a pass rusher in the draft
and at the same time trade our draft away. :D
metalhead86 - January 3, 2012
It is viable to find a pass rusher in 3rd or F/A
Mario williams will be a f/a after this year and unless he gets franchised the fins should go all out to get him. Mathis from the colts will also be a free agent, I am not too sure who is coming out of the draft but they should make it happen.
kingmz - January 3, 2012
Cliff Avril as well
He may be able to transition to OLB
Agent J 78 - January 3, 2012
I think he should stay also. First and foremost he is a Phin
Drafted by Miami, transitioned by Miami, and has a repoire with the players.
First off, this is a strict insurance move. Period. We currently know what Henne can do for us, whereas other options we do not.
My point is, we wont have to spend picks on a veteran, wont have to worry if Flynn is a fluke, wont have to worry about how mucb we will actually be hindered by Peytons contract, and will at least KNOW we have a Miami raised QB on the roster to keep Moore working hard.
The best news is that we can STILL draft a QB, but if we dont, we would still have someone familiar in case. Worst case scenario is we wind up not being able to move up but we have insurance and can position ourselves to draft a QB next year. Without it costing us ANY picks.
dolphinfan4lyfe - January 3, 2012 via mobile
great philosophy. in that case, lets never trade for or sign a free agent. heck, why even draft a college player? we don’t know what they can do as well.
talent>familiarity
BULLieving in Miami - January 3, 2012
Except that as he was saying
We have no intentions for Chad Henne anymore to be the longterm solution at the Quarterback position. Signing a contract with him now is a safegaurd. Alot of things can happen during a season, I know that I for one would feel better having a Quarterback on the roster who has been in Dabolls offense for a full season, started in it and has the faith of his teammates.
Nothing in sports, is more drastic than a change midseason in the NFL at the Quarterback postion, whether it is for good or bad. Having a player like Henne reduces that impact on the team.
However I disagree with Mosul here on whether he wants to come back. He may, but I watched his press conference this morning and nothing he said gave me any indication that he actually wanted to, or rather that he had a belief that he was going to be back in Miami in 2012. So I looked at what qoutes Mosul used as justification.
Chad said “I’m going to be here until they push me out of here,” and “I hope so. If not, then I’ll move on, but I love this team, I love being down here.” when asked if he would be willing to resign here. When you listen to the presser as a whole it seemed obvious to me that he knew that he wouldn’t be back.
civwarbuff - January 3, 2012
He said the best things for him to say.
The measure of his attitude will factor into his next hiring.
Tunaflipper - January 3, 2012
Henne has always behaved himself off the field.
PotM - January 3, 2012
Remember those pictures this off season at that party lol
Goon305Boy10 - January 3, 2012 via mobile
not even as a fall back option
no, don’t want him here. time to move on. none of us thought Moore was a ground-shaking signing but he showed himself to be a better QB in the end. no need for Chad at all. draft a QB and bring in another body not named Chad Henne. I still can’t believe there are people on this site that still defend him, as a backup or otherwise.
BULLieving in Miami - January 3, 2012 via iPhone app
Daboll?
Daboll will be gone with a new HC unless something that has never happened happens. When a HC comes in they pick their own personnel, I just hope we keep nolan and our entire defensive staff on when a new HC comes in.
kingmz - January 3, 2012
Yep.. Crazy talk.
Henne will be gone. Moore will probably stay & fight for starter position. Don’t be surprised to see the Phins go after Flynn from Green Bay and draft a QB…
Pianomanzz - January 3, 2012
If we sign Flynn
There will be no battle for the starting position. As much as Flynn will cost he’ll have to be the starter. Guess I’m talking crazy.
NawlinsPhinFan - January 3, 2012
There is no need for Henne anymore
Mat Moore is under contract for 1 more year and we WILL bring in someone to take the starting job. Moore will have to play better than he ever has to keep his starting job.
sdelinois - January 3, 2012
Thinking like this is what keeps us looking for a QB and in positions we are in without a backup plan
Bottom line is as I said its an insurance policy. Period. Got Moore? Okay what if he gets hurt. Got rookie? Yeah okay, believe any Rookie is going to come in and tear stuff up, and dont give me Cam Newton as an example. Yards mean nothing in losses. Success is equated with winning, period.
Im not saying sign Henne and thats it, I am saying that if we arent able to draft a QB, that is our best and cheapest option because we wont have to mortgage our future in a trade for him.
Flynn, noty…Manning, noty… Sometimes you just gotta think with your head and not just for right now…
dolphinfan4lyfe - January 3, 2012 via mobile
if Henne is insurance...
then I can get a better policy than The General…
BULLieving in Miami - January 3, 2012 via iPhone app
Umm... what a minute
Are you thinking about the future or thinking about now? You say:
but also say:
So you want to think with our head and not just for right now, but you don’t want a rookie to play and want to resign Henne… because you’d rather win now? So which is it?
The Earl - January 3, 2012
dont put words in my mouth, i said that a rookie isnt going to simply come in and tear shit up
I didnt say that he doesnt need to be given an opportunity. But to think that if Moore comes in and gets hurt, only having a rookie as a fail safe plan is going to get us wins is redundant.
By thinking about the future i was stating that giving up multiple first round picks for a guy that has done nothing in the nfl is crazy. You are hedging bets you cant afford. that also goes for trading for a veteran.
dolphinfan4lyfe - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Who cares if he doesn't tear it up?
He’s a rookie, I expect him to struggle. I’d rather finish 6-10 with a rookie than finish 8-8 with Chad Henne.
There is absolutely no reason to keep Chad Henne around. The players aren’t going to stand up for him (they said all the same stuff and more about Moore that they did for Henne). The coaches will have no ties to him. Ireland is not going to risk his career with Henne anymore. The owner isn’t going to waste his money to buy seats when fans don’t show up anymore. It’s time to cut our losses with Henne. He was brought in to be the franchise QB and he failed. He’s just not going to cut it as a Miami Dolphin. It’s time to move on. And if that means a rookie, then so be it. And if we don’t win as many games because the rookie starts, that that’s OK too. That doesn’t make me a “bad fan” either. It means I understand that I can’t desire to “win now” and rebuild at the same time.
The Earl - January 3, 2012
8-8 could get you in the playoffs
Phinphinatic - January 4, 2012
can i get in on the committee that will push him out the door?
seriously. seen enough. don’t want him. 4TDs and 4INTs is improvement? rocket arm with no touch, no deep ball, and shit for brains. just like they had to get rid of Ginn simply because his cowardly ways were not in line with the toughness they were trying to build here at the time, get rid of this loser. still hasn’t finished a season on the plus side of TD/INT.
BULLieving in Miami - January 3, 2012
interesting....
Henne is not what you say he is, and i doubt that you would have the coarage to say any of those things to his face. Why not type and speak as if someone was rith in front of you. Maybe people would think a little more before they throw out blanket insults.
Phinphinatic - January 3, 2012
I dont know about you but I don't get phased but celebrity, let alone quasi-celebrity.
maybe not completely insult him to his face (unless he asks my opinion), but I’m not kissing his ass either. they’re people like anyone else. i’m nobody and I can take criticism. I would hope he as a pro athlete would be able to deal with it. I’m not insulting him personally, I’m insulting his play and justifiably so after seeing it for 2+ years. I’m also doing it on a blog because this is the forum for such discussion. seeking him out to tell him to his face he sucks is downright creepy. I have better things to do.

Dont let the ignorant disturb you BULLieving
Its amazing to me the level of dilution and outright ignorance that is displayed by some Dolphin Fans. Chad Henne has posted the worse 4th quarter QB rating in the league since he has been a starter, has never thrown more TD than INTS, has no pocket presence, is NOT a leader , by several player accounts and yet these troglodyte fans continue to expound on his value, and make unfounded excuses for his inadequacies on the football field. Would I tell Chad in his face if he sucked, NO, but I would hope my franchise would not resign a player that has no future as a starting QB. The man was outplayed by MATT MOORE!!… I like Matt Moore he is serviceable, but Matt Moore being good is more of a reflection of HOW BAD Chad Henne is than how good Moore can be. Oh, and we had the worse line in the league this year, way to go Jake Long, GREAT PICK!!
Daniel Suarez - January 4, 2012
you are very disrespectful.

Moore 1st 3+ games after Henne got hurt
Consist of 1 TD and 4 INT’s
NawlinsPhinFan - January 3, 2012
Oh god another one
Those stats are skewed because 3 of them were in desperate situations. Go look at week 5 season leaders in QBR and Henne is rated 8th. You are not rated 8th if your bad…..If b-marsh caught some TDs instead of dropping them and he didn’t throw 3 useless INTs he would have a stat line like 7 tds and 1 int. Then we would be having a completely different discussion.
kingmz - January 3, 2012
you're right. let's just ignore his first two seasons.
who cares that they were in desperate situations, it’s an INT. better QBs perform in the same situation and succeed.
BULLieving in Miami - January 4, 2012 via iPhone app
His first 2 seasons?
He was handcuffed by henning and whats funny is you probably were a huge supporter for him to be fired. Damn hypocrites. He looked night and day this year compared to before and what was different than the last 2 years? WE GOT A NEW OC, DING DING DING. You people are impossible.

I would gladly hold the front door open for Henne to come back in
..and gladly follow him to his locker and give him the cardboard box he needs to clean it out. Then i’d call security and have him escorted out.
Maybe in the parking lot I would thank him and give him a couple coupons for Outback Steakhouse.
All told, thank you Henne, and good day to you.
mikem1224 - January 3, 2012
i would put three Master Locks
On his locker and escort him out with security.
Daniel Suarez - January 4, 2012
I think Moore has shown enough that Henne could go.
You definitely need a #1 QB. Moore and Henne aren’t that guy.
You also need a backup that is better quality than the crap Indy put on the field this year. Moore gives you that already.
The third spot, if they choose to use one, could be on a low round developmental QB. Some guy that has the tools, but isn’t polished. That could priovide you insurance down the road.
It doesn’t make sense to keep both Henne AND Moore to fill 2 QB spots when you already know you want a change at that position.
Keep one, and dump the other and get a first rounder and a sixth rounder to fill the other holes. Personally, I like sixth round QBs.
SlotMachinePlayer - January 3, 2012
I am wondering what Moore could get for a trade?
I might be thinking crazy talk but I am thnking resign Henne, trade Moore and move up for RG3 (maybe package Moore to help move up, it would give St. Louis or Minnesota a good backup QB).
Agent J 78 - January 3, 2012
YEAH RIGHT
I’ll give you a bag of coffee for Moore….Thats probably more than you’ll get from any other franchise… JEEZ
Daniel Suarez - January 4, 2012
See Donald Thomas in the pic? That was the last time we had a very good OL.
I wonder what could have happened, we just replaced 3/5ths of the line. Thomas is no a FA, we need to grab him, for at least backup responsibilities.
PotM - January 3, 2012
Donald Thomas actually
plays for the Patriots and has been playing due to Logan Mankins injury. Logan Mankins went down in the Dolphins game and Donald Thomas played out the remainder of the game at Left Gaurd. He played very well too in relief, on a line in New England that has serious problems right now he was a bright spot I thought throughout the second half of the game.
civwarbuff - January 3, 2012
He is a FA this year.

Neither is happening.
BSerious72 - January 3, 2012
No touch on your long ball, either, huh?
SlotMachinePlayer - January 3, 2012
I love the touch Moore has on his deep passes
But he’s horrible on check downs. Where as Henne was the check down master. I like the gunslinger mentality Moore has,but he misses wide open WR’s trying to force the ball to his primary WR. Not knocking Moore, but he not accurate on short passes. He throws a lot of balls behind the WR not allowing them to get YAC. He’s the main reason Bess got injured. Bess also would have scored if the would would have been thrown in front of him on the previous drive.
NawlinsPhinFan - January 3, 2012
wow
Just WOW!
Daniel Suarez - January 4, 2012
He was not shown on the sideline once after he got hurt. Kinda makes you wonder why hes coming out with this now. Chad is an average QB who will find no problem getting work.

But after seeing Henne not taking his play and offense to the next level and seeing Moore come in throw for more 25plus yards pass plays in just 12 games than Henne has in 3 years more than convinced me he needs to move on. No need to explain the 4 ints you’ve thrown in 3 1/2 games you played in because the Cleveland game define your career. Where are you when the game hangs in the balance?

But brin.ging him back now would be redundant with moore playing better. He’s going to look for a starting job, which he will have a chance to compete for on teams like the browns, jets, jags, cards, bills, vikings and ravens. All of those teams have qbs that are decent and are at the point of their careerr where henne was last year, either they could spiral up, or fall way down, we signed moore to give henne the push, but henne got hurt. Some team will sign henne to give their qb a push, or to replace him.

Daniel Suarez - January 4, 2012
This Year
Daniel Suarez - January 4, 2012
I think this season showed the importance of a good backup
the Bears were in prime position to get into the playoffs until jay cutler got inured. Too bad they had caleb hanie at backup.
The texans aren’t going anywhere in the playoffs because they don’t have great backups.
If Henne signs for cheap there is no reason why not to.
Also Henne is probably a better statistical qb than Moore but for some reason the team doesn’t want to play for him, and that’s really all that matters.
Gamer2102 - January 3, 2012
This is the Dolphins Management. I just got a call for someone that is looking for a Free Agent of Chad Henne's Caliber
Revshawn - January 3, 2012
Keep Henne for another year
The Henne bashers just don’t get it. Henne deserves a lot more credit.
Henne led the entire team all off-season without a coach. Had 2 new RB’s, 1 new Centre, 1 new WR, 1 new TE/FB and a new RT who is the worst in league history. That’s significant changes considering the extremely short time period the Phins O had to get things together. Henne immediately showed improvement and even started converting some of the analysts into Henne believers. This was with a porous o-line, no running game, Thomas/Long and Clay all battling injuries and a Defense that was tremendously under-performing. And last year he was dealing with injuries to Marshall and Hartline (which was significant due to the extreme lack of depth at WR), R+R had an ineffective run game going and every single o-linemen was injured to some degree.
Look, I get that these are all excuses, but the dude has the worst luck and Moore has reaped the rewards from Henne’s hard work, a much better running game, a much improved defense and an o-line that was more in synch which Henne never had. Henne played 3 solid games this year showing significant improvement from last year before being injured in the 4th game. He’s in-house developed and suddenly nobody wants him?
I’m not saying he should be the starter, but I think he’ll be relatively cheap to sign to a short-term contract to compete with Moore and they can help develop a rookie QB like Brandon Weeden or Landry Jones. RG3 just ain’t worth the draft picks required to trade up and there’s no way the Colts give up Luck.
I know most fans won’t like it, but drafting o-line first round and QB second seems like the best choice seeing that the Phins will be 8th or 9th pick behind Indy, Washington and Cleveland. Keep Henne and Moore. Trust me on that.

when the TEAM STARTED 0-7!! Oh and if someone is plagued with bad luck, get him away from , because his Bad Luck will start rubbing off on you. There is no empirical evidence as far as winning to warrant any Chad Henne apologizing, he is simply not a winner, for whatever reason, and this franchise cannot continue to invest its time, future, and money, on a person who simply can’t get it done…… CHAD I LOVE YOU, but go away, your a bad bet. And Drumzan It is you that “doesn’t get it”

If Moore isn't considered a franchise QB (which he's not)
I am almost thinking trading Moore for whatever we can get draft pick wise or package him to move up to get RG3. Minnesota and St. Louis could both use a quality backup QB. With resigning Henne it gives us a quality backup to RG3.
All the Moore supporters and Henne haters (which are usually the same people) will hate this but Moore isn’t our QB of the future and will have some trade value. I will also say this, if Henne goes FA he will sign for the Jests and I just have a bad feeling it will come back to bite us in the arse (it usually does).

I agree Moore isn't the Future of the Dolphins
So what does that say about Henne when a career backup drastically outplayed him???

Moore, really?
I get it that the team has indeed seen some short term success with Moore. However, was I the only one to see Davone Bess’ spectacular catches last week for what they really were….an inability to lead your receiver. Don’t even get me started on the play where Moore threw a bad pass to Bess who immediatelt got folded and nearly broke in half by Bart Scott. Good passes make that game a blowout with the Phins demoralizing the Jets and JT getting even more ears pinned rushinf opportinities.
Moore has been nice, but I’m not sold.
