Miami Dolphins Uniform Changes Coming?

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall is expected to be wearing the first Nike apparel as the shoe and athletic gear giant takes over from Reebok - a pair of Vapor Jet gloves. With all the speculation that Nike could be bringing the Pro Combat series from the NCAA to the NFL - and much fan hype about what new team jerseys could look like - any apparel that Nike releases will immediately come under scrutiny.

And, the release of the gloves has not dodged that scrutiny.

Before we go any further, I must remind everyone that these gloves are prototypes. The are going to be worn during the Pro Bowl, just so that Nike can get feed back from the players. Any visible changes could very easily change back to what is currently in use. But, on to the speculation.

The first thing people picked up on the Dolphins logo was the color of the Dolphin has changed. The aqua looks lighter on the gloves than it does on the current version of the logo. Now, it could just be the picture or the glove, but until Nike releases the full uniforms planned for next season, people will continue to wonder if the Dolphins' aqua color is changing.

Now, this is a minor change. It's not like the logo itself changed - as appears to have happened to the Carolina Panthers logo. It's a shade change. But, it could also signal other changes to come.

Nike and the NFL have tried to quiet the speculation recently, with the NFL's director of communications, Brian McCarthy, telling Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, "We anticipate new uniform technology (i.e., performance-driven, lighter materials). That's what Nike's [Charlie] Denson was referring to in his interview in 2010 regarding changes.

"Logos are controlled by teams and the NFL," McCarthy added. "That will not change. Teams have to apply to league to make changes to logos and colors."

For now, the speculation will continue - nothing can be said about the new uniforms until after the Super Bowl, when Reebok's contract officially ends. Plus, the league has said the new uniforms will be unveiled in April, with the 2012 Draft, so there's still plenty of time for fans to develop their own ideas for new Dolphins jerseys. And, if the team is looking to make any changes, perhaps they can address why the Dolphin on the helmet doesn't wear the team's helmet.

If it's anything like the Pro Combat line

you can stick it in your pro hole Nike.

Have mixed emotions about nine unys in the NFL. Would look to much like college and stray away from tradition in the NFL. Now im all about the changing of uniforms but to add this and that and piping here and there. Not to fond of it. Im more of adding an alternate jersey with your secondary or last color be it be your colors are green and whit with orange. Have an orange uniform (You can tell im a dolphan at heart lol) but I just don’t think going away from tradition in the NFL is smart. I am an Oregon ducks fan so I definitely love new uniforms but that’s in college for hounded adults. Not 17year vets. And this is the opinion from a younger person.

I don't really see any colour difference

It still looks shiny, which is the part I don’t like.

I wish we’d go back to our early 80’s look – non-shiny aqua, with aqua and orange rings on the sleeves and socks. That’s a clean, classic look. Also get rid of all the navy trim like the 49ers did – especially the navy drop shadow on the shirt numbers.

All of this is nit-picking though, our unis are a classic look no matter what.

I would actually like them to add more navy
But the Patriots and Bills use navy...

And screw them

lets see some

Throw backs

On February eleventh I'm scheduled to get for a tattoo that incorporates the Dolphins logo....

So OF COURSE they are gonna change the logo and color scheme shortly thereafter. FML….

I LOVE THE STYLE FROM THE '80s

I don’t particularly care for the black accent on the numbers – I hated the sight of the 49ers uniform with the black trim to make the numbers seem at an angle. I prefer the block numbers and the two or three strips on the sleeve and that’s it. No angle, no black – just the basic.

Why Change?

What the Heck is wrong with what we have know?
The remind me of the panthers uniforms……

Sorry

They remind me of the panthers uniforms…

1973 Undefeated Season

That my friend is when i became a 100% Dolphin Fan i was a 9 year old kid and Yes I do Have Taste..
I like the Dolphin on the helmet, but I think there should more white. Change can but a good thing but if the broncos and patroits changed there helmets i could sway that way.
I just feel the White uniforms helped us when it really got hot in September.

You my friend have no taste...

Dolphin unis are AWFUL. Except the “Primetime Game” editions

You can def tell who the old guys are on this site : )

But I’m all for the dolphins joining the 21st century in all aspects. I do like the classic uniforms of the 80s but that should be our alternate uniform worn against divisional rivals in one of the matches each and maybe for thanksgiving games. But I am very ready for some contemperary uniforms even if they are “ugly.” I’m sure the same people who don’t want any change to out uniforms also despise Oregon’s gear and such.

I'm an old fart :)

I am also an Oregon fan (I live in Oregon) and like their jersey changes. However, I like how our jerseys (Miami) look now and don’t want to see any changes.

I like this fan concept.

I would have gone a little darker on the navy, but it’s decent.

I like this n black but they are too dark for summer games.

There's another one that I saw yesterday that I liked...

It was a light gray (again, I would have gone a little darker, but still a good concept) – but now i can’t find it.

Oh, and true, the navy or black are too dark for summer – but we usually wear white at home anyway, so it would be okay.

This is a recolor that I did, I prefer dark aqua.

The aqua and navy don't go together at all...

I’m all for uniform changes, but this is a step in the wrong direction.

Water with the Dolphin....

That’s what I think of.

That's some dark water
Not bad..

I’d prefer a bit more accents in orange, less blue. As Scarecrow stated above, if we wore the older 70’s or 80’s style for the divisional games, that would be a good way to transition the new ones in. If we go with another version, that is.

Not a phan (see what I did there) of the navy

But I do like the new logo

I know Brian McCarthy

His dad was my history teacher throughout high school and I met him a few times. Really smart guy.

I definitely think we should incorporate some silver/gray
I read this article earlier this week

http://www.brandchannel.com/home/post/2012/01/26/Nike-NFL-Jerseys-012612.aspx

seattle has already been meeting with nike about them. makes sense since nike’s headquarters is out in oregon right by washington.

I like the idea of new uni's.

I say we keep the same style just streamline it like the Bills did.

I am guessing the Dolphin only wears an M on his helmet because it would be a little redundant to have another dolphin on his helmet.

Plus it would be too small to see.

if these gloves are any indication of what the unis will look like

navy will not be added and we will see more orange

I'm a big fan of the classic looks.

New designs tend to look dated in a few years. Take the Seahawks for example. They have one of the newest uniform designs in the league and they’re apparently working on yet another new look. I think the Giants, Bills and Niners made some of the best changes when they went back to classic looks. Perhaps do a third design to incorporate the silvery gray of a Dolphin.

Here is my contribution.
