Multiple reports have come out today saying the Miami Dolphins are close to signing Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle as the team's new defensive coordinator. Coyle's hire would be the first by the team since making Joe Philbin the new head coach.

The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy wrote earlier today:

"Bengals secondary coach Kevin Coyle concluded his interview with the Dolphins on Thursday. It is not wrapped up yet, but all indications are Coyle will be Miami's new defensive coordinator after 11 seasons here as the secondary coach."

Coyle has served on the Cincinnati coaching staff for the past 11 seasons. His first two years with the team, his first job in the NFL, Coyle was the team's cornerbacks coach. Coyle was promoted to defensive backs coach in 2003, overseeing a defense that has intercepted 150 passes over the past nine years - 125 by defensive backs.

Reedy also states that, if Coyle does indeed finalize the deal with the Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars linebackers coach Mark Duffner would likely come with him, serving as the Dolphins' linebackers coach and assistant head coach. Prior to joining the Jaguars, Duffner worked with Philbin and the Packers and the Cincinnatie Bengals, with Coyle.

What looks are gonna change on the defense?

The defensive line?

Safeties?

they all have to grow porn mustaches!
One name to definitely keep an eye out for in FA is Reggie Nelson

He played free safety for the Bengals this past season and had 4 INTs, 1 return for a TD, and only missed two tackles (19:1 ratio I think it was).

and only a 74.3 passer rating against him.
I remember him when he was on Jacksonville.

He used to be pretty good.

What type of defense does the Jaguars and Bengals run?

I like this hire by the way. Just wondering if this tells us if it is likely we switch to a 4-3

Well check this out

<Under Coyle, 56, there’s a very good chance the Dolphins will move to a 4-3 defense, though general manager Jeff Ireland stopped short of saying it was definite.

"I’ve prepared our scouts, especially in December when we made a coaching change, that we need to be looking at 4-3 personnel…," Ireland said. "We’ll make that transition if we go that route. It’s not going to be that big a transition."

Interesting useless trivia of the day

Sherman was Philbin’s English teacher in high school.

I was doing some reading about Coyle, sounds like he would be a really solid hire.

How about this

Did u know that during his who career that Dan Marino only threw one TD against the Giants

and only one in Overtime as well
In only three games, right?

’90 & ’93 & ’96

... but what you didn't know, was that he was hot for the teacher....
You went there!

But I know, you had to.

Well we accept you, so we can accept him too. :)
Hey Agent...All in for RG3 huh?

That is good. LOL .. Show me the $$$ LOL.

So hat happened to Bowels(SP)

Just curios is all. I thought he deserved a shot.

You know I do not know

what to expect from the cheating Patriots.

New coach, new staff.

Bowles is a very good secondary coach and will be a DC somewhere, someday. Most here would have liked to have him back but it is what it is.

You're the second one to pickup on that, congrats. :)
looks like sparano...
Safety

I like this hire. Hopefully bringing in a DB coach means the Phins will finally invest in a Free Safety.

The last "DB coach" that was head coach for us, was infact Don Shula!
so if duffner comes in brian cox is gone?

boo

maybe Coyle likes him!
Brian Cox is not the LB coach

Hes the pass rush coach. Our linebackers coach was already set to leave.

I really do not know what to think about this possible hire....

I havent made any research on Coyle, and dont really know what to expect from him…. I would have liked to at least interview other options instead of a one and done process… but what do I know….

Well, technically Bowles was interviewed by Philbin...just sayin. It did happen.
Philbin seemed dead-set on this guy from the start.

Definitely has the trappings of an underappreciated guru. Eleven years on a pretty bad team, during most of which the secondary was inexplicably solid.

Cameron Wake in a 4-3 defense would be sick

That’s what he played in the CFL as a DE. Haven’t anyone noticed he rushes the passer better when his hands are down. Also he could be like Mario Williams who is versatile, switching between OLB and DE.
