He’d have to get permission from the Saints to leave because it’s a lateral position switch. They could easily block his exit. If he was accepting a position as a Head Coach, then the Saints wouldn’t be able to prevent his move.
You cant just make dream staffs. Carmichael would have to get permission to make a lateral move to a team without a QB. Spags wouldn’t come with Zimmer maybe calling the plays. Spags will take William’s spot as NO DC probably.
I am no expert on the history of the Dolphins either, just there are certain players from each “era” that stick out. I try my best to know the players from past teams that I should know as a fan. There are many Dolphins I know that played before I was born.
Bryan Cox was hired last year and there was a lot of discussion about it so I figured that even if you didn’t know his history with the team you would have still heard about him.
I’ve always been a dolphins fan but that was because of where I live and my parents, but last season I started watching a lot more football and became a true Dol-Fan
There was no doubt about that. The new coach would want his own DC. Nolan didn’t get an interview for the HC position. And, Nolan reportedly did not enjoy being in Miami last year.
From the moment Sparano was fired, Nolan was leaving.
Our run defense hasn’t been a problem you mean? I’ll agree with that, but i think a 4-3 will give us the help needed in our weak secondary. Those are my 2 cents though.
So it’s kind of hard to expect that aspect of the defense to improve solely because of a scheme switch. I think our pass rush will improve though, so that might help our secondary
Because the qb is on his back helps our suspect secondary immensely. When we had tons of pressure on qbs this season, the pass game from other teams was hard to see. You saw the bug plays pulled off when the qb had all day to throw.
But it won’t make our secondary personnel better. We still need a ballhawking FS to take advantage of that increased pressure. We’re going to need to replace Bell soon..
Hi Everyone! First time post but year 2 in reading your comments…Long time fin fan over here on the west coast. I have to say with losing Nolan we need a defensive HC imo. Our defense is the strengh of our team and I would like to build on that as much as possible. No clue on what this FO wants to do though…struggling the last few years with this team
I know many wanted Nolan to return as DC, but really, everyone knew it was unlikely he’d come back with a new regime change. It just hardly ever works out that way.
It sucks to realize he’s gone, but we knew he was most likely gone the day Sparano was fired. Nolan is exactly what Atlanta needs and it’ll be interesting to watch their defense grow under Nolan, especially since they’ll most likely convert to a base 3-4 defense.
Good luck Mike Nolan. You were one of the few, if not the only, well liked coach in Miami for the past several years. At least it’s nice to see a coach go on good terms…
But there were better options for him. I would’ve loved for him to remain, but Atlanta truly is a better team if he wants to win and if he turns the Atlanta defense around it’ll only up his chances for a 2nd chance at a HC position. Honestly, I think it would’ve been a bad move for him to return when he had better options out there.
And rightfully so. I loved having him at the reigns, but you gotta respect a man if you expect him to be a team player. The loss hurts, but I understand. Nothing but the best to you, Nolan.
HC:Zimmer. Had the 7th ranked defense this past year and can transition us well into a 4-3. He is also a great leader so we don’t have to worry about Cam Cameron again
DC:Bowles. Won’t call plays because Zimmer will. But will be on sideline working with players, focusing on secondary

We take Marino hostage. Fly him to China where they inject him with a horrible concoction of stem cells and radiation. Now transformed, we bring him back and we don’t even need coaches or coordinators.

Wasnt he under contract? Or is he free to come and go as he chooses?
BSerious72 - January 17, 2012
he was under contract as long as sparano was HC
After he was fired, nolan was free.
AnishB15 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
His contract ended this year.
He signed for two years back before the 2010 season, so he was technically a free agent coach.

id like Zimmer as DC
Carmichael as OC.
Moss as HC.
Possible? lol
BSerious72 - January 17, 2012
that would be perfect, but why would Carmichael leave the Saints for the same position with us?
#1Heatfan - January 17, 2012
He probably wouldn't lol
unless he misses Reggie and his beautiful chocolate muscles… i mean whatttt…
Nolan left for the same position for Atlanta? But Atlanta is better so I understand.
BSerious72 - January 17, 2012
Atlanta also has a HC currently.
I wonder if Nolan just wanted out after being passed over for interim coach or if he wanted out the moment Sparano was shit-canned.
joel311 - January 17, 2012
He couldn't just choose to do so
He’d have to get permission from the Saints to leave because it’s a lateral position switch. They could easily block his exit. If he was accepting a position as a Head Coach, then the Saints wouldn’t be able to prevent his move.
Finhead83 - January 17, 2012
Ass. Head Coach?
FinFanFromCA - January 17, 2012
Not considered a promotion.
Finhead83 - January 17, 2012
That is what most teams do. With a coach on staff that is getting sniffed at. Bowles was an Ass. Head Coach.
FinFanFromCA - January 17, 2012
Technically it is even though we all know its not. Teams have done it in the past to get around the rule.
texascowpunk - January 17, 2012
They've offered AHC positions, but it's still considered a lateral move.
Just like how position coaches can be blocked from being coordinators. It’s goofy, but HC is the only position considered a promotion.
Finhead83 - January 17, 2012
Williams left the Aints to go to the Rams for the same position DC
Just saying.
NawlinsPhinFan - January 17, 2012
that's because he is friends with Fisher
Williams woulda been our DC had Fisher came here

You cant just make dream staffs. Carmichael would have to get permission to make a lateral move to a team without a QB. Spags wouldn’t come with Zimmer maybe calling the plays. Spags will take William’s spot as NO DC probably.

no, i put out two distinct possibilities, here, i will explain
Option 1:
HC:Zimmer
OC: Daboll or mike shula
DC: Bowles
Option 2:
HC: Carmichael
OC: Daboll
DC: Spagnuolo
AnishB15 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
oh thanks for that I didn't understand
That looks reasonable. The 2nd one looks better but the first one is more realistic.

You can’t blame him. He wants to go to a team that make the playoffs year in year out. He will do great there.
We need to bring Bowles in as DC now, regardless of who the coach is.

maybe bowles
How about bringing in spagnuolo? Is he even available?
AnishB15 - January 17, 2012 via mobile

interview for the position.
texascowpunk - January 17, 2012
I was hoping he'd at least interview.
But he would probably be gone even if he interviewed and didn’t make it.
Finhead83 - January 17, 2012
Hard to say. Its probably much more insulting to his ego to not be considered at all especially given that the D was the strong part of the team.
texascowpunk - January 17, 2012
No doubt.
But there were better options for him. I would’ve loved for him to remain, but Atlanta truly is a better team if he wants to win and if he turns the Atlanta defense around it’ll only up his chances for a 2nd chance at a HC position. My idea is to hire like this:
HC:Zimmer. Had the 7th ranked defense this past year and can transition us well into a 4-3. He is also a great leader so we don’t have to worry about Cam Cameron again
DC:Bowles. Won’t call plays because Zimmer will. But will be on sideline working with players, focusing on secondary

But now people are upset we didn’t interview a guy who went 18-37 in four years as a head coach.
His best season was 7-9. He also went 4-12, 5-11, 2-14.
Sparano went 11-5, 7-9, 7-9, 4-9.

Little Nicky 21 - January 17, 2012 via Android app
Let's get gronk! Wait.. that's not right.. is it?
Alpha6 - January 17, 2012
you are not right !! lol
daytonadolfan - January 17, 2012

ricenbeans82 - January 17, 2012
i have a feeling we wont even be able to land any of the b list guys, and then also completely bomb the draft
ricenbeans82 - January 17, 2012
Ok good to know we havent given up
Phinsphana - January 17, 2012
This team makes it really hard to have hope.
They have kicked us in the balls for most of this decade.
Little Nicky 21 - January 17, 2012 via Android app
I have learned to expect for the worst
AlejandroN - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Well you can always go root for your home town team or just fight through it like those of us who have been fans forever.
texascowpunk - January 17, 2012
I don't think the kick hurts you...
lol
Alpha6 - January 17, 2012
are you saying there are no twig and berries there?
daytonadolfan - January 17, 2012
i have reached an all time low for this season, i thought going 0-7 to start the year was gonna be the worse, but right now is the worse
ricenbeans82 - January 17, 2012
Fan morale is at an all-time high
We cant even agree on how bad we are.. At least during the 1-15 year, everybody accepted that we stunk and it became hysterical..
Little Nicky 21 - January 17, 2012 via Android app
Damn
Meant all-time low
Little Nicky 21 - January 17, 2012 via Android app
Oh I thought it was sarcasm
Phinsphana - January 17, 2012
couldn't be sarcasm
wasn't in the grey boxMiamimaniac - January 17, 2012
It seemed implied
Phinsphana - January 17, 2012
I don't know how to use the box lol
Little Nicky 21 - January 17, 2012 via Android app
That's because they put it on the top shelf.
Miamimaniac - January 17, 2012
what do you mean Nicky is super tallBSerious72 - January 17, 2012
Just use the holes provided...
Ooops, wrong box.
Alpha6 - January 17, 2012
REALLY
wow this is ridiculous, their goes our best co-ordinator.
Daniel Suarez - January 17, 2012
I'm tell you all
We take Marino hostage. Fly him to China where they inject him with a horrible concoction of stem cells and radiation. Now transformed, we bring him back and we don’t even need coaches or coordinators.
Fuhbawl - January 17, 2012
Disappointing
I did Like Nolan as DC, Maybe they ought hire PEE-Wee Herman as coach.
Since we like Celeb’s anyway, to help fill the stands.
twinssdfan - January 17, 2012
awww crap
Patssuck456 - January 17, 2012
... more than a shart?
Alpha6 - January 17, 2012
I actually sneezed, farted and coughed all within a couple of seconds
Patssuck456 - January 17, 2012
Sneezing and farting
Is painful. The air comes out fast at both ends at the same time.
Sharkz_N_Phinz - January 17, 2012 via Android app
Proves that the longer it takes to hire a head coach the more it will hurt us
…Not that whoever we hire would have retained or resigned Nolan. But still….
mikem1224 - January 17, 2012
i agree with You
That is why i tossed out the Pee-Wee herman thing for coach.
It’s becoming a Joke!
twinssdfan - January 17, 2012
well then the fins will hire a new
DC but they just hired the new OC last year.
broxtone - January 17, 2012
I hope the door hits you on the way out
We have a lot of talent on D. We’ll be ok with a new coordinator as long as he’s not conservative. I hope we bring back the 4-3 D.
54 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
I guess one can call this rebuilding
Over the past year, the team has 3 new running backs, new QB, new OC, new DC and new coach.
And the Patriots ….. are in the AFC championship game!!
DAVEBUCK - January 18, 2012
Is your preferred alternative to not replace guys who left via free agency or IR?
The team probably wouldn’t do very well running 8 guys out on the field.
PNSter - January 18, 2012
good luck to him
