Nearly two weeks after Jeff Fisher initially interviewed with the Miami Dolphins, Fisher this afternoon announced where he will coach in 2012: not Miami.
Fisher will coach the St. Louis Rams--an organization currently without a general manager--and has reportedly already begun assembling a coaching staff for his gig in St. Louis. The Rams are in dire need of upgrades at several key positions, but play in a lackluster NFC West division that could make the rebuild process exponentially easier for Fisher and Co.
Fisher previously coached the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans for over 16 seasons before his release in January 2011.
It's back to the drawing board for the Dolphins. Since their initial meeting with Fisher, the Dolphins have interviewed Chicago Bears special teams coach Dave Toub, Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

Well
Damn.

about time
Kdog92 - January 13, 2012
Go for one of the Green Bay Coaches
Moss, Clements, or Philbin. Although I dont think Philbin is an option right now.
Or Pete Carmichael, maybe Chud.
As for Ross, well I wouldnt shed a tear for Ross if he was beaten to death by a mob of angry Dolphin fans. He’ll I’d down a bottle of Ipecac and vomit all over his tombstone. Then once I rehydrate I’d down a bottle of milk of Magnesia and well you get the idea.

Goon305Boy10 - January 13, 2012 via mobile
nah
Patssuck456 - January 13, 2012
Agreed as far as Ross goes...
I can’t imagine how a coaching change could’ve been handled any more poorly than this …beginning a year ago when he clumsily went after Harbaugh. And maybe someone could explain this damn love affair he seems to be having with Ireland?
JTC111 - January 13, 2012
Once again
Ireland isn’t the problem, Parcells was…and Ross still is. Ireland did a decent job this last year with the draft, considering what he had to work with, and finally got us a QB.
Blue or CONKZILLA - January 13, 2012
finally got us a QB?
Yeah hopefully after the 2012 draft maybe
phinsphan85 - January 13, 2012
Matt Moore is our starter
and will stay our starter, the kid is good. He needs protection on the rightside, along with another top WR and a TE.
Blue or CONKZILLA - January 14, 2012
Unless we get another QB of course. Also please tell me how Ross is the problem?
I mean I know he can not make a tackle to save his life but come on!
texascowpunk - January 16, 2012
Ross is the problem in the FO
he’s the one that screwed up the whole Harbaugh thing, even though people seem to want to blame Ireland.
Blue or CONKZILLA - January 16, 2012
Blah, blah, blah. So what? He made a mistake and the Dolphins fans who I guess are all perfect and
know everything about running an NFL franchise would have done so much better? The guy comes from the world of business and those sorts of things happen all the time in the business world. He has since admitted that he know knows that one is different from the other and apologized and that he had a learning curve that he was also working with. The guy wants to win and it willing to spend the money to do so. We can continue to bitch and whine and cry or realize that we are lucky to have an owner that is not a cheap ass and that while he has made some mistakes he is working the best way he knows how to make the team better.
texascowpunk - January 16, 2012
And I agree with much of what you said
My point about Ross was that he seemed to be undercutting Ireland’s authority as GM. It seemed like he was trying to be a Jerry Jones type, instead of letting Ireland make the decisions. As for Ireland, I like most of the moves he’s made since Parcells took a hike…well, except for signing Columbo.
Blue or CONKZILLA - January 16, 2012
Yeah I get to see the Jerry Jones saga up close living here. There is no way that Ross even comes close to
scratching the surface of Jones. Not even a little bit.
texascowpunk - January 16, 2012
I’m not saying Ireland is the problem. I’m saying that, imo, a head coach is more important than a GM (not saying a GM is unimportant so don’t interpret it that way). And since Ireland has no history of building perennial play-off teams, I don’t think it’s in the team’s best long-term interest to only consider head coaches who think Ireland shits pro-bowlers.
JTC111 - January 14, 2012
ABOUT TIME!
Good riddance. I was praying St Louis got saddled with him and his power hungry ego. He can keep his power running stache and all of his “Fisher Entourage” cronies and head to the midwest.

Kdog92 - January 13, 2012
I agree. If he is already in FL to meet with Tampa then it makes some sense. Bring him in and then bring him home.
texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
Although in the minority, I still like Billick.
Not did on Chud, but would make a nice interview. My serving second would be Philbin (but I understand his situation, prayers still going up for you and your family, Phil). I also like the thought of bringing in the senior Schott for a few years while we groom our next up and comer under him, soaking it all up like a sponge.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
Billick is not coming to the Phins.

I have been reading on Billick
and I don’t like what I have read.
He acts smarter than he is and is arrogant towards his staff.

and sadly McDaniels will probably get another Head coaching job sooner or later.
Jcrew1179 - January 13, 2012
Can't stand Billick
I’m from Baltimore but have been a Dolphins fan all my life (since about 6 years old when I got interested in football, which was before Baltimore had the Ravens). I was really turned off by Billick when he was in Baltimore. A total a*hole. No class, and I really hope the phins would never bring him on.

Him and Ross are not fans of each other so no worries there.

Toub as HC with a really good OC!

Bakersfield Blowholes - January 13, 2012
two years in a row they lose out on the top coaching candidate.
Harbaugh and now Fisher.
How can you not negociate a deal that Fisher finds more attractive in Miami’s market versus St. Louis? No offense to St. Louis I have lived in this area all my life I personally like it. But c’mon there is obviously something amiss with Ross’ negociation skills.
this organization is officially too dissappointing to become emotionally invested in.
how about Mike Nolan? I think the guy deserves another shot at HC.
scrappy the wildcat - January 13, 2012
maybe it was becuase he had more connections and friends over there and maybe ross didnt want to bblow up what we have started here..

I hear you dude.
I love living in the St. Louis area too, but I don’t see how you can’t sell someone on Miami instead.
Chupathingy - January 13, 2012
It really comes down to what a guy values. People that are from or live in Miami act like its the ultimate.
Its not by any means.
texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
exactly. It’s like here in LA. I moved here from the midwest and I’ve lived in Chicago, Wisconsin and Texas but I can never understand how people would want to live anywhere else but LA but the reality is, people value things more than the weather and the immense amount of things to do (like not having to pay up the arse to rent or buy and apt). So I have to tone down my “why would you want to live elsewhere…” because it’s subjective.
TAYDIGGA - January 13, 2012
*correction rent or buy a house or an apartment
TAYDIGGA - January 13, 2012
See and I get that a place like LA is right for some but I personally would never liver there. I will eventually end up back
in S. Florida but in the Keys and not in Miami or out in the Santa Fe area.
texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
I know that’s my point, it’s a preference/value thing. And I get that. I was agreeing with you. People like to act like it’s a logic thing but it isn’t. It’s about the little things that people like. With you living in Miami though make sure you don’t kill anyone, or Dexter will take care of you.
TAYDIGGA - January 13, 2012
I know you were agreeing with me as I was with you. So much lost in translation on the web!

Alpha6 - January 13, 2012
You can’t intellectualize something like this, subjectively. It’s preference. We don’t know what his life is like or anything that may have played in his decision. Your applying your subjective mindset to his situation. But I know he had ties there and etc., so that played a part. Plus, he may have been really close to coming here because it’s Miami but felt he had more to work with in St. Louis with the QB situation and everything. So all in all, it’s not a “I can’t believe he chose St. Louis over us…” situation.

Blue or CONKZILLA - January 13, 2012
i never understood the shock factor about the hokker thing.. i mean if someone told me his dad was a pimp and his mom works for his dad.. ya i sure would think that she was his book keeper. lol i mean what was jeff susposed to think? hell any one of us would have asked the same thing but because he did he is a rotten snake in the grass
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
really?
your telling me in a football interveiw your going to ask a kid if his mom is a hooker. I don’t even have a problem with ireland, but come on
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
if he tells me his dad is a pimp and his mom works for him then yes i would.
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
how does that pertain to catching a ball
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
when yo ugo to check out a player you also check out his background and his family that is how it pertains. teams look for good charactor guys remember
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
a person family should not count to what type a player that person is for god sake dick nighttrain lane was abandoned in a dumpster and hes hof
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
i didnt say that it should or shouldnt but every gm ask about family friends and what not yo uhave to look at the whole player that your about to give millons two so you should know as much about him on and off the field as you can
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
It shows how good his mother catches balls...
Duh.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
if she had just walked in and was wearing booty shorts and a halter.. even though i was thinking hooker i would not ask. but i am sorry dez opened himself up for that question
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
how
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
i just said how.. but saying his dad is a pimp and his mom works for his dad. what job do you think she would have??
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
well yes but if your a major executive to a billion dollar franchise you should know when to show some tact
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
i thought he did.. lest he didnot say hay then does that mean your mom gives killer blow jobs and takes it up the butt for 50 dollars more. so to me yes he had tact in just saying hooker
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
well because if you say it that way dez bryant will kill you and it would be justified
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
so now we kill folks for talking and it is justified?
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
thats not what i meant dont take things so literally what i meant was you cant blame a guy for being defensive towards his family we all are. trust me someone asks me if my give bjs i will let him know how i feel
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
I’m with Phins on this one.
TAYDIGGA - January 13, 2012
Well according to Dez that isn't how the interview went
So well never know what the line of questioning was, but couldn’t jeff just move on with the implied answer? I don’t get why it needed to be asked, it’s the kids mom..
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
alot of hookers have kids and they get asked if they are hookers least jeff didnt ask for sex
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
Not in a job interview
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
thank you
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
Most interviews are not as intrusive as the ones the NFL conducts.
texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
I agree that it did not need to be asked but it was one of those off the
cuff things that once you have time to reflect realize you should not have said or asked. I am willing to bet that every single one of the people that has called him to the mat for it has made stupid ass mistakes as well. Big difference is you did not have some little douche bag go whine to the media about it to make himself look like some major victim. Sure a question like that would piss me off but I would be a man about it and address it directly myself. Not go crying about it like a little bitch. Just sayin’!
texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
I'd be pissed if he asked point blank

texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
So because Ross basically said to Fisher "My boy Ireland is going to have final say, if you dont like it then walk away"
Does this give us less of a chance of negotiating a deal with them supposing we want to trade for their pick?
AlejandroN - January 13, 2012 via mobile
I doubt it. If they want what you have then the trade happens.

Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
Well, in some ways I'm fine with this
Fisher’s a good coach, but he’s not worth Cowher money.
On the other hand, once again the ineptitude of our FO structure comes to light. It doesn’t matter how much $$ Ross is willing to spend, if these guys don’t want to work with the stooges in the front office.
DrJay32 - January 13, 2012
It wouldn't matter who we had as GM
Fisher wants all power in his hands. SIMPLE as that. to which I say, kick rocks!
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
I hope we play the Rams this year...Run the scope up... then hand Fisher the Game Ball!
MassFinFan65 - January 13, 2012

MassFinFan65 - January 13, 2012

MassFinFan65 - January 13, 2012
I compare the anger to a similar fashion of not giving up a 2nd for Orton.
We didn’t give Fisher full power. Ross didn’t want to overpay either man (one overpaid with power). There always has to be a line in the sand.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
don't you mean - Head in the Sand??
Pianomanzz - January 13, 2012
Yeah, but when it's Jeff Ireland in power...wtf?
The Dolphins are in their worst losing stretch in their entire history.
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
the gm dont coach the phins
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
He has the power though
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
the power to bring in players and last i looked he has givne us some pretty good ones.. not all have been but what gm hits on all his picks?? name me one and will be the first to say jeff needs fired.
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
7-9, 7-9, 6-10
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
again like i said HE didnt coach the team
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
The players are the ones playing the game, they get equal blame, as does the GM who signs them
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
ya he gets collage players who have to learn a system.. from the HC. not the gm
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
Ireland got us player
We need a coach to prepare, oversee the whole operation. We need coordinators (which I think we have in place) to take coach’s direction and make the players aware of their role and how best to do it, players who can/will do it to the best of their ability (which we mostly have). Get the right coach and this team will work the rest out and make everyone look good, including Ireland.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
thank yo ujust what i am trying to get across. he has brought in the players for the most part. it is on the coaches from that point on.
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
Jeff Ireland did well this year.
His only year at the helm.
And multiple sources that have worked with Fisher have made it resoundingly clear that you do not give him personnel decisions. He’s a great coach, but a questionable personnel guy. This was the right move by Ross. You can’t just blindly fall in love with a name.
joel311 - January 13, 2012
I don't love Fisher, I'd actually rather have Chudzinski
It’s the way this franchise seems to mess everything up. I’m not going to defend a franchise that has been one of the worst most mistake prone franchises in the NFL the past 10 years.
Of course, I’m going to blindly cheer for them when the season starts, but they are a mess. Will it change? Possible, but doubtful. If they pass on Manning (IF hes healthy) or dont trade up for RG3 I have no clue how they expect fans to be excited again.
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
Wins make fans excited.
We have a lot of talent on this roster that underperformed the first half of the season. I seriously doubt we have a losing record next year, regardless if we draft RG III (who wouldn’t start right away anyway) or not. That is, so long as we don’t get a dud of a HC.
joel311 - January 13, 2012
You're insane if you think RG3 isn't starting day 1
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
It depends on the team and who is in place at QB
For instance, if he’s a Fin, but wer also land Peyton, he suits and learns. Even with Moore, I think he sits in the beginning to get acclimated to plays, speed, the roster around him and how he can be used (scheme/game plan).
If he land in say… Washington, instant starter. I think even the Rams, assuming they keep him, sit him initially to see what Bradford will do. However, say…. Tampa Bay would be willing to give him a run.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
I disagree
If he’s here, he’s starting. Moore goes back to holding a clipboard.
I think the only teams he would sit on are the ones that won’t pick him because they already have a QB.
Lets be honest, he’s better than every QB from last year’s class, and a few of them started immediately and had success. Newton tore it up and set rookie records, and Griffin is a much better passer and a smarter kid. He’s a starter day 1
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
Moore proved he is competent.
Competent enough to not have a need to toss RGIII in immediately. If we had Henne still (being his third year now) or Culpepper, he starts immediately. Moore, not a franchiser perhaps, but a decent place holder to start the season.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
No I understand that Moore could start for a few games
But the QB learning curve doesn’t start until he’s on the field. Sitting him for 6 games won’t help if he’s already learned the playbook, which I’m sure he will
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
That's only reason I say he isn't immediate day 1 starter.
They’ll ease him into it, unless Moore sucks first… maybe three, games. Then he is called in early
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
My point is why sit him though?
Throw him in there, easing him in is impossible, because at some point he’s going to play an NFL football game without ever playing one before
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
Because
If you don’t have to, you don’t rush a rookie QB into the game. Take time to refine his game, find his flaws and create a gamelan that fits him as well as the talent on the team. If his flaw is he hold the ball too long, and you don’t take time to coach him, you could lose him to injury unnecessarily. If he panics after a few hits (NFL his are much different than college hits), he may become prone to throwing interceptions. Which could in turn hurt his confidence and make him doubt himself. Then you have a problem.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
I wouldn't say he's insane...
It’s up to the coaching philosophy.
TAYDIGGA - January 13, 2012
LOL, we fire Sparano early to get a head start....
So far the head start has worked better for Sparano, who found a job.
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
LOL!
TAYDIGGA - January 13, 2012
Haha too true.
I was all for firing Sparano last year because I thought he was too stubborn to change his philosophy. I was a little more on the fence after we started winning this year, but his clock management was still atrocious in his 4th year. That is unacceptable.
joel311 - January 13, 2012

It's been part of the Jeff Fisher saga.
I looked through his window while he was consulting his Magic Eight ball.

phinsphan85 - January 13, 2012
I really don't see this as a huge loss
I like Fisher but he was a bit over valued. His record didn’t equate to the coin being offered. And I sure as hell wasn’t looking forward to the 3 runs and a punt offense.
FinsSince70 - January 13, 2012
The NFC West isn't going to be a cake walk in the next couple years.
Seattle is on its way up, and San Fran is already there. Nice choice, Fisher. Enjoy being the 3rd best team for 5 years before you get shitcanned.
joel311 - January 13, 2012
I just don't understand why Ross is so enamored with Jeff IRELAND?!?
Does he piss gold or something? This team is in the worst state it’s been since the 1960s…what is with the love for Ireland?
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
what??? dude then you have no clue about phins football. guess you forgot the 1-15 season what four years ago?
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
3 straight losing seasons is the longest since the 1960s. After 1-15, they went 11-5.
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
... and Marino years?
Alpha6 - January 13, 2012
What about the Marino years?
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
4-12, 9-7, 6-10, 1-15, 11-5, 7-9, 7-9, 6-10
Records since 2004. 2 winning seasons, 1 quick playoff appearance. People are satisfied with this?
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
hum looks to me like 4-12 9-7 and 6-10 are three straight losing seasons to me.. and in that time how many Fo changes did we go thru?? forget about that.. ohh ya thats right jeff our gm is at fault for the years he wasnt even here.
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
9-7 is above .500....9 is bigger than 7...
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
yep true.. my bad.. when i first looked my brain saw 7-9
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
I know Ireland was not around then, it's just pointing out this franchise has been in the dumps for a while
And Ireland deserves some blame for the recent issues, not all the blame, but some.
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
i agree it has been and it takes more then one season to build a long term winning franchise like the pats have.. not one hit wonders who are in the playoffs one year and the first pick of the draft the next. and jeff this year looks to be taking us more in the dirrection of the pats instead of say the jets
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
Ireland didn't hire Sparano
Parcells did…and Ross was the one who caused the Harbaugh mess last year. Ireland is probably more interested in Philbin or Chudzinski.

Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
how is it an exscuse when yo uhave someone over you who makes the final choices and they may not be the ones you choose? it is a valid reason. he is on his own now so if he bombs from here on out it is on him. but so far i have not seen him bomb out. not hit everything yes but not miss everything either.

Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
He's been GM since 2008, yes Parcells helped at first, but still, people want to act like Ireland just went and got coffee
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
no i am sure he didnt i am sure he went out and looked at talent and brought up his pick to tuna and then tuna decided who he wanted
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
I wish thats all he was doing now lol
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
I'll say this
If Ireland was smart, he would hire Saban back. It would take the heat off him a little, he would only be the second most hated guy in the org.
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
The truth is in the middle
On the one hand, he shares some of the blame, on the other, he did not have the final say. No different than Fisher. We can fund several flaws in his personel decisions, but find excuses that it wasn’t his final say because of Adams.
I am saying, before you get pissed, just think about how much actual evidence we have as to whether he can do his job, or why Ross is sticking with him. We have very little.
Strange - January 13, 2012 via mobile
9 of the last 10 seasons have ended with no playoffs
Worst 10 year stretch in franchise history.. Ireland was supposed to change that with Parcells.. Instead, it’s exactly the same: no QB, terrible coaching, a roster with holes at some of the most important positions, and no playoffs
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
Thank you. How the GM escapes any blame from some is beyond me.
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
he dont escape blame.. but EVERYTHING on wrong with this team does not rest solely on his shoulders.. for me he has had one year on his own.. done pretty well in the draft and FA.. now this year he claims he is going after a top QB if he dont do that then i will put that blame on him.
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
No it's not ALL his fault
But the other guy at fault already got his pink slip
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
right he brought in the players and the coach didnt use them well so he gets rid of the coach and finds one who will.. how does that make him a bad gm?
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
He was still on this staff helping Parcells, which is why most fans have little faith in Ireland
And usually when you fire the coach, you fire the person he came in here with. He was hired along with Sparano by Parcells.
The Dolphins have done this before I believe, after losing wannstedt and saban they kept both GM’s…and it failed miserably both times.
hbkDolphins - January 13, 2012
Because in four years
We have no quarterback, the line is a mess even though we spent half our cap on it, the secondary lacks playmakers, we just spent $12mil on a meh NT, and we have exactly 1 guy with the ability to rush the passer in our current scheme..
I think thats kind of his fault
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
welp you cant always get everybody you want in a draft so you take what you can get see which ones yo ugot that work out like you had hoped and the ones you dont you let go and keep trying.. till you get the holes filled..
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
11-5
Was a soft schedule year, we shocked with a new formation that took coordinators a while to figure out, and actually played to the strengths on the QB we had, as well as the strengths of the RBs and overall team. But we failed to diversify the Wildcat and it was so predictable until it was ineffective (for US, anyway).
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
The team is nowhere near the worst state.
We have our first ever RB and WR 1000+ yards tandem and a suffocating run defense. The COACHING was the problem. Our personnel has steadily improved and Ireland did quite well last year.
joel311 - January 13, 2012
I don't know how you can say we aren't in bad shape..
First time in decades we have 3 losing seasons in a row, and the 3rd was the worst..
And all that coming off a supposed rebuilding plan to drag us up from the playoff-less abyss of the last decade.. Instead, we get 1 playoff game, then immediately revert back to mediocrity.. We are 6-10 with no QB and no head coach.. How is that not bad?
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
Let's bring in Marty Schottinhiemmer.....
And keep our OC and DC .
Bromdenn - January 13, 2012
How bad does your organization have to be for you to take the job
with a 2-14 team that has more holes to fill than a sieve. We must be pretty fucked up is all I can say, I guess I just did not want to believe it but damn, you want to live in the armpit of the nation and coach a 2-14 team rather than MIAMI. Holy crap does that wave red flags.

Sadly, this is kind of a typical reaction.
First, we weren’t big on Fisher, but we just want news of what he’s doing. When he chooses elsehwere, it’s CLS. Wasn’t it just 4 days ago that many people preferred 3 other candidates that are still out there?
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
I am not upset that Fisher elected to go to St. Louis.
That is completely his right and he should go to where he feels most comfortable whatever the reasoning. Whether it was an increased role in personnel e.t.c. he should go where he wants to and that got a great coach. Credit to them.
Im frustrated by Mosuls post that the Dolphins are going to reinitiiate the coachign search (if it is true). That shows complacancy. St. Louis continued with their interview process. If the Dolphins have not yet decided between Toub, Bowles and Zimmer then I have reason to be irritated.
civwarbuff - January 13, 2012
Miami did continue with other interviews.
They interviewed Zimmer two days ago. They stopped yesterday while they waited.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
Incorrect, Mike Zimmer was interviewed on Tuesday and that interview had already been lined up.
http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/01/11/2583573/mike-zimmer-interviewed-as-miami.html
The Rams initiated 3 more yesterday (Aaron Kromer from New Orleans, Chudzinski and Dennis Allen if the Broncos are eliminated). It will take time to set up interviews and then begin them.
Unless two things A.) The Dolphins have one lined up for tomorrow or Monday and only took the past two days off from actually interviewing candidates or B.) One of the three candidates that have been interviewed and are possibilities (obviously excluding Philibin) have been decided upon.
civwarbuff - January 13, 2012
They have one lined up for tomorrow, though they haven't stated who it is
Not sure why not though
phinsphan85 - January 13, 2012
CHUD CHUD CHUD!
Phinsphana - January 13, 2012
I heard that as well, but only from Mosul.
civwarbuff - January 13, 2012
Yeah, Jeff Darlington tweeted it
phinsphan85 - January 13, 2012
Ok.
civwarbuff - January 13, 2012
Either scenario I rest my case.
civwarbuff - January 13, 2012
Ok.
So we haven’t interviewed someone in 3 days. Not a long time when we were waiting for Fisher on 2 of them.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
I understand that and I have no issues as long as either A or B are true.
civwarbuff - January 13, 2012
Mularkey was supposed to interview this week also. He got the Jags Job.
FinFanFromCA - January 13, 2012
Whoa now,
you don’t know if The Dolphins are waiting on the playoffs to end for a shot at Carmichael, or if they really liked Philbin but are giving him plenty of grieving time.
Everything going on right now is speculation. The same exact thing that this site was jumping all over ESPN for all week.

Because Belichick is VERY tight lipped.

10
fsu_csu - January 13, 2012
If the answer is 10, that would indicate you feel Miami has the talent to be a playoff team.
That would say Ireland has helped put a quality team together. It was coaching and poor play that did them in, not personnel moves. Just think of that for a moment.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
no we had an easy schedule should have won ten automaticly
fsu_csu - January 13, 2012
When I look at the schedule, I don't see 10 automatic wins.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
Texans, Cleveland, Denver, Dallas before season then we should have won Cleveland, Denver, Dallas and Giants
fsu_csu - January 13, 2012
we should have won those last four games i listed
fsu_csu - January 13, 2012
You really think we should have beat Houston and the Giants
When we started the season with the Henne/Moore poopoo platter at QB
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
oohhh i could go for a poopoo plattah right now
I sure hope we have a better “menu” at QB come Septembah
phinsphan85 - January 13, 2012
Top two teams have great QBs
we need to take advantage of that
fsu_csu - January 13, 2012
I don't see Houston, NYG, or Dallas as automatic wins.
If you feel Miami blew the game in the 4th quarter, that’s coaching and playing. They are not weak teams.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
houston was a surpise and dallas has been struggling. then when the season started we should have beaten the struggling dallas and giants teams
fsu_csu - January 13, 2012
Dallas is still a good team and played at home on a 3-game winning streak when they played.
Houston was a surprise to nobody. They were expected to be a very good team. The Giants were also 4-2 when they played. You mentioned 3 good teams. 2 of them are in the playoffs and the 3rd barely missed out with a loss to the other.
Finhead83 - January 13, 2012
Lol
We should beat every team, except we usually lose. Pat White’s fault
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app

Finhead83 - January 13, 2012

Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
I'm still blaming Avery.
texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
I agree.
None of those are easy wins.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
easy schedule based on what exactly>
don’t forget we finished 6-10, we blew 4th quarter leads to the Giants, Browns, Broncos and Cowboys; the latter 3 at the very end of the game
No matter how you spin it, that is not on the GM, that is on the coaching staff and the players.
Jtpdolphins2009 - January 13, 2012
and the argument of its the GM who hired the players that failed
that’s a BS argument, at some point you have to blame lack of execution and scoring for those losses.

10-12 reasonably
Split the Pats and Jets.
50-50 on the NFC East teams.
That’s 4 losses. Maybe Houston or San Diego, too. Although they’d be close.
SlotMachinePlayer - January 13, 2012
Regular season
I say a strong 11. We lost some HIGHLY winnable games to start the season, and by a few points. Mental/coaching/discipline errors.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
12 with wins against Cleveland, Den, Dallas, NYG, Pats, and San Diego
And as Slot mentioned, Houston also with better coaching. All the above games were lost due to coaching and a play not to lose mentality in the 4th qtr.

Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
but not all coaches come out of the gate and win shula didnt either. took him time to build a team. we dont give coaches that time anymore.
animal2020 - January 13, 2012
Agreed
You have to give time for everything to come together. Coaching staff, roster. They have to be under a unified vision and that takes fine to develop, that chemistry. Every few years, wer are scraping the team and starting over. Out provides no time for chemistry to form, a proper identity for the team, which dictates players, to be established. They are always a bunch of guys running plays, not a team. There’s a HUGE difference.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
That sounds good
Except stability is only good if the people in place are good. Keeping a bad coach for the sake of stability only ensures that you will be consistently bad.
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
True...
But until you give a coach time to assemble his own team, it’s hard to tell. He can’t completely blow up the current team and start fresh. Likewise, the great coaches…. they tend not to be available after the season. Sometimes you have to give a good coach a chance to become great. If he is an obvious dud after a few years with no improvement, sure. But if we continually have the expectations of immediate powerhouse (which most do because of team history), we’ll be on this two – three year coach carousel for a while.
PhinNomenol! - January 13, 2012 via Android app
I don't agree there..
Wannstedt had a lot of time, he was bad. Saban left on his own, cameron was a disaster right off the bat, I’m sure you aren’t going to make a case for keeping him more than 1 season. And Sparano had 4 years where he got worse.. We aren’t the raiders. But we haven’t found a coach who’s worth giving that time to.
Little Nicky 21 - January 13, 2012 via Android app
Of them all
Soprano had huge faults, but I think he is going to be a great HC. He has ALOT to learn, but he is on the right track. I think anyone could see that. I see him getting another shot in four to five years. And when he is replacing Rex Ryan, making regular playoff runs and kicking our ass twice yearly (dramatization for effect we’ll still crush the Jets forever), we’ll whine “we had him and that fool Ross fired him. We always lose the good ones, now look at him”.

The Rams were at the big game in the early aughts.

The Cardinals got there.
Now the 49ers look like they’re on the brink.

They easily could have won 10-11 of the games
Honestly I don’t know who makes decisions on clock management / playcalling. But there were some really, really boneheaded moves that cost them games they should have won..
I was excited about seeing a mustache and mullet on the sidelines, but I saw a picture of Fisher without them and he looks stupid and pointless without it, so good riddance. they need a young, hungry guy who plays will balls and has a killer mullet. I am TELLING you all now, if the coach has a mullet the curse will be lifted. Ross should grow a mullet too. Hell, even Ireland could grow a cute little ginger mullet.

Those Marshall drops early in the season were really really painful
It really seemed to me like he clicked with Moore much more than with Henne.

It could have been worse
We could have hired him and he’d possibly wind up unhappy with the organization and be a bad match for us. That would lead to potentially many years of wasted time. Instead it’s just a week or so. Plus, we’ve still been and will continue to interview so it really isn’t a big deal. We just have to relax and hope Ross makes the right decision.

Thats the kind of mindless thought and reasoning that I would expect from GGN.
texascowpunk - January 13, 2012
because he had one year in charge as GM?
And he had some nice pickups in free agency and the draft. Ok, he didn’t get a franchise QB in his first season. There was no way we could trade up to Newton from 15, and I’m glad he didn’t try to reach or trade up for a QB like Ponder or Gabbert. Locker I think might be good but was taken at 8. Andy Dalton is pretty good and was a steal for the Bengals in the beginning of the 2nd.
Pouncey is a potential pro bowl center for the next 10 years and Daniel Thomas showed promise when fully healthy the first couple weeks of the season. I’m intrigued in what he can do next season with a full off season. Gates has potential as a burner and should see more time next season. Clay was a steal in the 6th round and Jimmy Wilson is a promising prospect. He did a really nice job of hitting with his draft picks, even with the late ones.
He got Reggie Bush, who everybody criticized Ireland on thinking he could be an every-down back. He went on to average 5.0 yards a carry and his first 1,000 yard season. Everybody criticized Ireland for not over-trading for Orton and signing Matt Moore. Moore (who I don’t think is a franchise QB but a very good manager) had a great season while Orton sucked in Denver and got benched for TIM TEBOW, who automatically turned the team around. Burnett started off slow with the rest of the defense but ended up having his first 100 tackle season of his career and was very disruptive. Colombo was a horrible signing but Tony probably has a huge hard-on for him and convinced Ireland he could get him into the form he was in when they were at Dallas.
I’m not saying he’s perfect, but Jeff Ireland has actually done pretty well for his first year in control. I think with this being his make or break year he will go all out for Griffin or Flynn and get a potenital franchise QB in here for once. We shouldn’t blame Ireland for Parcell’s decisions starting to backfire on us now.
Va FinFan - January 14, 2012
Please point out a GM that is. Ireland is a great GM, we just need a HC under him that can utilize what he has and can evaluate the talent he has (Sparano, and Henning got rid of a lot of talent that Ireland/Parcells found).
