The so uncomfortable media conference announcing Sparano’s extension afterwards. Conducting 2 HC searches one with Ireland , the other with Peterson = Goofy

A lot has been made of that one act of looking at a potentially better coach.

To me, looking into it before you fire the coach still seems pretty solid, if on that occasion, misjudged.

The Miami Dolphins and the St. Louis Rams are still waiting for an answer from Jeff Fisher. Will he join the Rams? Will he join the Dolphins? Could this wait have anything to do with the Indianapolis Colts?

The Colts today announced that Ryan Grigson has become the teams new GM and his first order of business will be to decide the fate of HC Jim Caldwell. If Caldwell is released, the Indy job suddenly becomes the hot spot for a top coach. In fact, it’s very likely that Fisher could spurn both the Rams and Dolphins and head north to join Peyton Manning.

Remember, Fisher loves Peyton Manning. Add a possibly healthy QB, the number one overall pick in the draft, and an owner willing to spend money and Fisher would be hard pressed not to wait a few more hours…or days…to see if the job opens up.

The problem of course is that the Rams and Dolphins are in suspended silence…for use of yet another pun, they are the worms on the end of the hook awaiting the bite that will reel in their catch. Damn, Fisher makes it so easy to sling those type of analogies.

So is it unfair? Some would say absolutely. He has interviewed with both teams, wrapping up his Rams visit almost a full six days ago. Both teams have subsequently conducted "fall-back" interviews with secondary choices but neither team has gone full in with those candidates…instead waiting on the decision of their first choice.

For Fisher it’s a matter of making a career choice. He doesn’t owe either team or anyone else an explanation or for that matter an answer. If he knows that he is not going to accept say the Rams job, the proffessional thing would be to let them move on. If he is indeed awaiting the Colts situation to play out, then perhaps he should make that known as well to the party that he is most interested in…might even gain him more money.

My instinct tells me that the situation in Indianapolis is very much an interest to Fisher and that should the team fire Caldwell, FIsher will be jumping at the chance to get there. He has had plenty of time to talk things over with his family and simply needs to come to a decision, if not for his own sake, for the teams that are awaiting his decision…o.k. so that fans can actually put this thing to bed and the rumors can either fire up into some other direction or the coaching search can end.

For now all we can do is wait, just like Stephen Ross, Jeff Ireland, and everyone else, but I will say this, if Fisher doesn’t make a decision this afternoon or by midday tomorrow, keep a close eye on what Grigson does with Caldwell. If Caldwell is announced to be staying…my guess is Fisher will make a decision within 24 hours or less.

It’s been no secret Caldwall may get fired. I don’t see why Fisher would say it’s between STL and Miami and change at the last minute, especially since Indy still has Caldwell. This sounds more like someone’s personal belief rather than information from Indy or Fisher.

Anytime I see “My instinct tells me…” it’s almost as bad as Adam Schefter’s “sense” the other day. Speculation, yes, a worry for the Dolphins (or Rams) at this juncture…absolutely none whatsoever, so long as Caldwell remains the coach.

Yeah…that’s all speculation. Nowhere in this article does it state that the Colts have even reached out to Fisher.

They needed structure in place. That is one thing Fisher would consider in his decision. With Polian gone, they needed to find a new GM, which they have done. Now, if Caldwell goes, that opens a very wide door for Fisher. And with the #1 pick, possibly in addition to Manning, that would be ideal for Fisher.

I personally want Jeff Fisher to be the Dolphins head coach because there isn’t a single person in the industry who has a bad word to say about him. There are no ,“yeah, buts…” He’s a SOLID coach, solid talent evaluator, solid game day person, and with the right resources (which I’m not sure he always had in Tennessee) he’ll be able to lure free agents and improve his product, which will be built via the draft.

A lot of people want to make a big deal about his winning records, but you have to look closer than that. You have to be more thorough. A team doesn’t stay the same for 17 years. You have to keep rebuilding in in four year cycles. He did that. Also, considering he was in the same division with Peyton Manning, and he also survived and spearheaded a difficult move from Houston to Tennessee. That’s not easy.

I will be OK with us signing Fisher.

The NFL is a business and if the Dolphins offer the Rams a nice package that makes sense they will take it. The Rams after all have a few holes to fill. I doubt they hold a grudge against the Dolphins if they get Fisher. The right offer will dry their tears.

you know, this is eerily reminiscient of the harbaugh situation last year.

We identified the coach we wanted (harbaugh, fisher). Ross went to great lengths to make him happy (flying to cali for harbaugh, free heli rides for fisher). One other team was offering less money, but was also a major player (SF, St. Louis). Everyone said the big head coach was coming to us for a few days, and that the only thing left was a contract. Suddenly, all news stopped for a day. The next day, he’s with the other team. Just pointing out similarities.

Simple one was when we still had a coach, done all in secret and shady. This is all very transparent

from the Phins side and the coach has long since been fired. Also the hold up is not on the Phins. This has nothing to do with them. How in the hell are those two, the men, the situation, their backgrounds, the way it was done, the circumstances under which it was done, the experience of two, any of it really just like the last time.
